Titans Slip Past Falcons

OSHKOSH, Wis.–Playing singles for the first time this season, Alessandra Rivera delivered a straight-sets victory during the final match to lift the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 win over UW-River Falls during a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual Saturday (Oct. 1) at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts.

Rivera defeated UW-River Falls' Grace Aerts 7-6, 6-3 at No. 6 Singles to clinch the dual victory.

UW-Oshkosh (5-1, 1-1 WIAC), which avenged two losses to the Falcons in 2021, has now won 11 of its last 13 meetings with UW-River Falls (0-6, 0-3) and improves to 24-14 in the series since 1985.

Setting the stage for Rivera's heroics were a pair of doubles wins for the Titans and two victories during the previous five flights of singles play.

UW-Oshkosh's No. 1 Doubles tandem of Courtney Carpenter and Alexandra Schmoldt defeated Alexis Budzinski and Chloe Struss, 8-5, and Titans Cordelia Damkot and Louisa Damkot were 8-5 winners over Kailey Courteau and Kaytlyn Syverson at No. 2 Doubles.

Also winning for UW-Oshkosh in singles action were Louisa Damkot over Budzinski (6-3, 7-5) at No. 2 and Cordelia Damkot over Struss (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3.

The UW-River Falls No. 3 Doubles team of Karyn Duddeck and Kennedy Zeifert eked past Rivera and Hannah Stitt, 8-4.

The Falcons then evened the dual with singles wins from Courteau over Schmoldt (6-1, 3-6, 10-8) at No. 1, Syverson over Stitt (6-2, 6-0) at No. 4, and Duddeck over Carpenter (6-1, 6-3) at No. 5.

UW-Oshkosh wraps up its four-dual homestand when it hosts UW-La Crosse on Wednesday (Oct. 5) at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts.
