UW-Oshkosh freshman Bailey Schroeder ranked 18th among 26 contestants in the 1-meter category at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Women's Region 1 Diving Championships Friday (Feb. 25) in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Schroeder, the lone Titan to qualify for the meet, totaled 341.60 points during her 11 dives to finish just five points out of 15th place.

University of Chicago (Ill.) owned the top two finishers in the 1-meter section as Elizabeth Cron placed first and Wenxuan Tang second with scores of 423.85 and 420.00, respectively.

Emma Heilmann of Wittenberg University (Ohio) finished third with a score of 409.65 while Abigail Wilkov of Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) placed fourth at 405.40 and Abigail Koops of Hope College (Mich.) fifth at 390.25.

Schroeder didn't participate in the meet's 3-meter diving competition.

Schroeder qualified for the Region 1 Diving Championships through scores recorded during the 2021-22 season.

Schroeder finished first off the 1-meter board during each of UW-Oshkosh's six meets leading up to the Region 1 Diving Championships, including the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship held Feb. 16-19 in Brown Deer. Schroeder defeated 12 other divers at the WIAC Championship with her victorious and season-best score of 412.75. She became UW-Oshkosh's first conference 1-meter diving champion since Rachel Heitkamp in 2004.

Schroeder also posted winning 1-meter diving scores (11 dives) this season of 397.55 at the Lawrence University Gene Davis Invitational on Nov. 13 and 409.85 at the Carthage College Classic on Dec. 4. She was the 1-meter diving winner (six dives) in UW-Oshkosh dual meets against Beloit College on Jan. 7, UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 14, UW-La Crosse on Jan. 22 and Ripon College on Feb 5.

In addition to the Region 1 (Central) meet in Michigan, three other Division III diving regionals were held this weekend – Region 2 (Midwest/South/West) at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas; Region 3 (Northeast/North) at Smith College in Northampton, Mass.; and Region 4 (Northeast/South) at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y.

Each of the four regionals will have at least two of the 29 overall qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships that will be held March 16-19 at the Indiana University Natatorium on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus in Indianapolis, Ind. At-large diving selections to the national meet are expected to be announced around March 1.
