Four Titans Place at Cornell Invite
MT. VERNON, Iowa—Four Titans placed at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invite hosted by Cornell College as the UW-Oshkosh Titans took seventh out of sixteen teams competing.
At 197, Beau Yineman opened his day, winning by a fall (1:20) over Marquese Carter (Iowa Wesleyan). Yineman posted a win by major decision over Jacob Badger (Augustana), winning 12-3. In the semifinal match, Yineman won by a fall over Coe's Mathieu Arsenault (2:53). In the final match of the day, Yineman posted an 8-0 major decision win over Coe's Jared Voss for a first-place finish.
Luc Valdez finished in second place for the Titans and opened his day with a bye. Valdez won by a fall (0:44) over Sam Deyro of Augustana before defeating Connor Kidd (Luther) in an 8-3 deicion in the quarterfinal. Valdez posted an 8-2 decision over Jaiden Moore of Coe in the semifinals. In the finals, Cade Hornback of Coe won in sudden victory (SV-1, 4-2) over Valdez.
Taking seventh place at 133, Denis Murphy started his day with back-to-back wins. Murphy won by fall (2:36) over Christian Diaz (Cornell) before posting an 8-2 decision over Gavin Hilyar (Augsburg). Murphy fell in the quarterfinals to Trevor Boryla of Augustana in a 7-4 decision. Murphy defeated Isaac Martinez (St. Ambrose) in a major decision (13-5) before falling to Hilyar in a major decision (15-6) in the consolation semifinals. In the seventh-place match, Murphy won by forfeit over Simpson's Kanin Hable.
At 184, Dakota Treleven took eighth place. Treleven fell to Wartburg's Zak Kozumplick in the second round as he received byes in the first and third rounds. Treleven got his first victory of the day, defeating Iowa Wesleyan's Kaden Kaiser in a 16-7 major decision. Treleven posted a 7-6 decision over Coe's Logan Andeway before dropping to Kozumplick by fall in the consolation semifinal and final.
The Titans return to action on January 21. The Titans will host the Auggies of Augsburg at 1 p.m. in Albee Hall.
