Valdez and Yineman Post Victories as Titans Fall to Pioneers

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Luc Valdez and Beau Yineman grabbed victories for the Titans as the UW-Oshkosh Titans wrestling squad fell to UW-Platteville Pioneers, 36-6.

Down heading into the second bout, Valdez gained late momentum with back-to-back near fall points. Valdez would go on to a 10-3 decision, defeating Nolan McKittrick of Platteville.

It was a battle of ranked wrestlers at 197 as Yineman and Tyler Hannah faced off. Yineman posted a 10-3 decision to defeat Hannah.

At 133, Denis Murphy dropped a match to Zach Thompson, who currently holds the No. 2 ranking in the NWCA rankings. Thompson defeated Murphy in a tech fall 22-7 (6:36). The Titans dropped the next three bouts at 141, 149, and 157. Elijah Sanchez (141) and Luke Moczynski dropped their matches by falls while Cody Welker (157) fell by a major decision (13-3).

Nate Stokhaug fell in a decision at 165 to Coy Reuss of Platteville. Competing for the Titans at 174, Michael Loger dropped a 7-5 decision to Justin Warmowksi.

Dakota Treleven fell at 184 to Kasey Ross by a fall (3:59). In the heavyweight bout, Guyon Cyprian Jr. fell to Brett Schoenherr in a 5-1 decision.

Rankings

At the NWCA National rankings, released on January 3, 2023, Yineman sits at No. 5 in the national rankings at 197. In the Upper Midwest regional rankings, Valdez sits at No. 6 at the 125-weight class and Yineman at No. 2 in the region.

In the D3wrestle.com rankings, released on Jan. 11, 2023, Yineman is No. 2 at 197 for the Titans. Valdez is an honorable mention at 125.

The Titans are ranked in the team rankings from Open Mat, sitting at No. 24 in the team tournament rankings. Yineman holds the top spot at 197 in the Open Mat rankings.
