Valdez Leads the Titans at MSOE Invite

MILWAUKEE, Wis.—Luc Valdez led the Titans with a second place finish at the UW-Oshkosh Titans wrestling squad competed at the MSOE Invitational on Dec. 3, 2022.

Valdez opened action with a 4-2 decision over Whitewater's Tyler Klein at 125. Valdez recorded a major decision victory over Platteville's Trace Gephart (13-0) before posting a 4-0 decision over Eureka's Jake Jozwiak. Valdez fell in the championship match at 125 to Triton College's Anthony Schickel is an 8-4 decision.

Competing at 197 for the Titans, Dakota Treleven received an opening round bye. Treleven defeated Aurora's Jose Armando Ferrer in the second round (Fall 1:54) before dropping the third round to Platteville's Tyler Hannah (Fall 3:59). Treleven defeated Central's Brodie Toth in a major decision (13-3) before defeated MSOE's Jake Schmitt in a 3-2 decision. Treleven won by medical forfeit over fellow Titan Beau Yineman before falling to Hannah in the third place match (Fall 3:49).

Cody Welker finished in fifth place for the Titans at 157. Welker fell to Augsburg's Tyler Shilson (TF 16-0) before receiving a bye in the second round. Welker posted three consecutive falls over Concordia's Jack O'Donnell (Fall 4:28), Aurora's Sam Dale (Fall 6:57), and Central's Kevin Hogan (Fall 0:53). Welker won over Platteville's Brody Lee due to medical forfeit before fall to Augsburg's Blaze Jagodzinske (Fall 2:49). Welker won the fifth place match due to a forfeit by Curtis Brock of Platteville.

Beau Yineman took to the mat for the Titans at 197, finishing in sixth place. Yineman received a bye in the first round before defeating Chicago's Cade Creighton by a tech fall (18-0). Yinemann recorded a tech fall win over Cornell's Jackson Brinker (TF 18-2).

Denis Murphy competed for the Titans at 133 and went 2-2 on the day. Murphy fell in the opening round to Justin Fortugno of Whitewater (MD 15-5) before defeating Christian Diaz of Cornell in an 11-0 major decision. Murphy defeated Sean Conway of Chicago in a 7-4 decision before falling to Gaige Owens of Eureka in a major decision (14-5).

Michael Loger competed at 165 for the Titans, receiving a first round bye. Loger won by fall over Aurora's Emanuel Diaz (Fall 2:58). Loger dropped back-to-back bouts against Central's Jason Herrmann (Dec 6-0) and Eureka's Andrew Sims (Dec 6-2).

At 174 for the Titans, Will Dixon started his day with a win over Chicago's Daniel Sipes (Fall 1:52). Dixon fell in a 13-0 major decision to Augsburg's Carter Sorensen (MD 13-0). Dixon received a bye in the third round before defeating MSOE's Caleb Brick in a 3-2 decision. Jeivan Ross of Triton College defeated Will Dixon in the final round (Fall 0:41).

At the heavyweight position for the Titans, Guyon Cyprian Jr. won his first two bouts of the day by falls. Cyprian won by a fall over Concordia's Seth Elliott (Fall 5:48) before defeated Whitewater's Jacob Peacy (Fall 3:33). Cyprian fell to Augsburg's Tyler Kim in a major decision (MD 12-2) and Platteville's Wyatt Ripp in a 4-3 decision.

The Titans finished in sixth place as a team, as 18 teams competed at the invite.
