Yineman, Valdez Place at Luther Open

DECORAH, Iowa—Beau Yineman took first place while Luc Valdez took fourth at the Luther College Open as the UW-Oshkosh Titans competed in the Elite and Silver brackets.

In the elite bracket division, Yineman took home first place at 197. Yineman won by major decision in the second round over Loras' Derek Venteicher (Maj. 11-2) after receiving an opening round bye. Yineman won over Darius Mynar (Wartburg) (Fall 0:53) and Parker Venz (Augsburg) (Fall 3:21) before defeating Kolby Franklin (Iowa) in a 9-4 decision.

At 125 in the elite bracket, Valdez received an opening round bye before winning by a fall over Wyatt Kaczrowski (Augsburg) (Fall 4:49). Valdez won by decision (4-0) over Cade Hornback (Coe) in the quarterfinal round before falling in the semifinal round to Nolan McKittrick (Platteville) in a 9-2 decision. Derek Steele (Augsburg) won over Valdez in the third-place match up.

Valdez is a contender at 125 for the Titans. Preston Morgan (174) is ranked No. 10 while Yineman is No. 1 at 197. Curran is a contender for the Titans at 184.

Yineman is the top ranked wrestler at 197. Morgan ranks No. 20 at 174 for the Titans as fellow Titan Curran sits at No. 11 in the 184-weight class.
