Titans Host Eagles; Set to Compete at Luther Open

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Action continues for the UW-Oshkosh Titans wrestling program as the Titans host the Eagles of UW-La Crosse on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The Titans will hit the road on Nov. 12 for the Luther College Open, with action beginning at 9 a.m.

The Titans ended a 30-match losing streak to the Eagles last season, posting a 29-14 win over the Eagles.  

The Titans and Eagles have the potential to see ranked matchups at 125 (Oshkosh-Luc Valdez, La Crosse- Brandon Murphy), 157 (Oshkosh-Nate Stokhaug, La Crosse-Seth Brossard), 184 (Oshkosh-Patrick Curran, La Crosse-Kalyn Jahn), and 197 (Oshkosh-Beau Yineman, La Crosse-Marcus Orlandoni).

Early Success

Yineman led the Titans at the Pointer Open, going 4-0 on the day for a first place finish. Josh Te Stroete, Stokhaug, Cody Welker, and Valdez all finished in the top-6 for the Titans.

In the season opening dual, Valdez, Welker, and Yineman posted wins over UW-Whitewater.

La Crosse Lookout

The Eagles of La Crosse opened the 2022-23 season as they competed at the Rochester Community and Technical College (Minn.) on Nov. 5. Seven Eagles placed at the event, including Michael Douglas who took the 285-pound title.

Other Eagles that placed were Kaleb O'Reilly (165), Murphy (125), Nolan Paar (174), Tyler Goebel (149), and Leo Draveling (184).

Nationally Ranked Wrestlers-D3Wrestle (As of Nov. 8, 2022)

Valdez is a contender at 125 and Stokhaug (157) is an honorable mention for the Titans. Preston Morgan (165) is ranked No. 6 while Beau Yineman is No. 2 at 197. Patrick Curran is a contender for the Titans at 184.

La Crosse's Murphy is a contender at 125. Nolan Hertel is ranked No. 3 at 157 and is joined by Brossard at No. 5 at 174. Jahn is a contender at the 184-weight class with Orlandoni an honorable mention at 197.

Yineman is the top ranked wrestler at 197. Morgan ranks No. 20 at 174 for the Titans as fellow Titan Curran sits at No. 11 in the 184-weight class. 

At 125, Murphy is No. 9 and Hertel sits at No.3 at 157. Brossard is No. 3 at 174 and is joined by his teammate Jahn (184) sitting at No. 9. Ben Kawcyznski sits at No. 7 at 285.

Weekly Honors

Yineman was named the WIAC x Kwik Trip wrestler of the week, following a 5-0 start to the season. Yineman beat UW-Whitewater's Jakub Maciorow by technical fall (21-1) in the season opening dual in Oshkosh. Yineman went 4-0 in the Pointer Open on Nov. 5.
