Priebe Sixth, Titans Fifth At WIAC Championship

Erika Priebe finished sixth among 69 contestants to lead UW-Oshkosh at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship (presented by Culver's) held Friday through Sunday (Oct. 8-10) at the Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg.

Priebe totaled 239 strokes (23-over-par) during the 54-hole tournament after counting daily 18-hole scores of 76, 80 and 83. Priebe, who previously placed 19th at the championship in 2019 and seventh in 2018, recorded this year's finish with the assistance of two birdies and a tournament-leading 35 pars.

The Titans also had Margherite Pettenuzzo finish 16th with 247 strokes (31-over-par) and Megan Footit 18th with 248 (32-over-par). Pettenuzzo had three birdies and 23 pars at this year's championship while Footit tallied two birdies and 25 pars.

Pettenuzzo previously finished 20th at the 2020 championship (held this past spring due to the novel coronavirus pandemic), 13th in 2019 and 26th in 2018. Footit was 34th at last spring's league tournament and 33rd in 2019.

UW-Oshkosh's other results in the top 50 belonged to Ava Downie, Lauryn Davis and Josie Hofer. Downie used one birdie and 17 pars to finish 35th with 268 strokes (35-over-par) while Davis utilized two birdies and 16 pars to place 37th with 269 (53-over-par) and Hofer two birdies and 20 pars to rank 41st with 271 (55-over-par).

Davis placed 21st and Downie 52nd at last spring's championship while Davis was also a 28th-place finisher at the 2019 tournament.

The Titans' remaining participants at this year's championship were Alyssa Dreher, Gwyn Golembiewski and Kaylee Sadowski. Dreher finished 58th with 288 strokes (72-over-par), Golembiewski 59th with 292 (76-over-par) and Sadowski 60th with 294 (78-over-par).

UW-Stout's Abbey Filipiak, a fourth-place finisher at last spring's championship, captured this year's individual title with 230 strokes (14-over-par).

UW-Eau Claire's Lexi Meade placed second to Filipiak with 234 strokes while UW-Platteville's Markie Ash finished third with 236, UW-Whitewater's Lily Sheppard fourth with 237 and UW-La Crosse's Molly Larsen fifth with 238.

UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the team competition with 992 strokes (128-over-par). The four-time conference champion Titans acquired their score with daily stroke counts of 322, 334 and 336.

UW-Whitewater accumulated 958 strokes (94-over-par) to claim its fifth straight WIAC title and seventh overall. The victory gave the Warhawks the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship that is scheduled for May 10-13, 2022, in Houston, Texas.

UW-La Crosse placed second in this year's team listings with 969 strokes while UW-Eau Claire ranked third with 976, UW-Stout fourth with 988, UW-Platteville sixth with 1,051 and both UW-River Falls and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 1,057.

UW-Oshkosh's Pettenuzzo was among eight golfers named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
