Titans Fall to Warhawks at Home

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Kayce Vaile recorded her seventh double-double of the season as the UW-Oshkosh Titans (17-6, 7-5 WIAC) fell to the UW-Whitewater Warhawks (18-5, 9-3 WIAC) in a midweek matchup, 67-55.

Vaile recorded her third consecutive game with 12 rebounds and added 17 points for the Titans (eight-of-eleven from the field). Ava Douglas (14 points) and Kennedy Osterman (10 points) joined Vaile in double-digit scoring. Douglas, Kate Huml, and Osterman all went perfect from the free throw line.

The Titans were held to 33.3% from the field and went 81.8% from the free throw line (nine-of-eleven). The Titans collected 32 rebounds, ten assists, five blocks, and three steals in the contest. 

Game Summary

The Warhawks opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers as Vaile and Douglas opened scoring for the Titans. The Warhawks went on a 9-2 run, as the Titans trailed 15-6 with 4:39 remaining in the game. A pair of free throws from Osterman brought the Titans with six as Sarah Hardwick ended a two-minute scoring drought for the Titans.

Huml went to the free throw line to start the second quarter for the Titans. Vaile went on a 6-2 run as the Titans held the Warhawks to two points over nearly six minutes. Both teams faced scoring droughts in the second quarter. Huml and Osterman scored for the Titans in the final 1:08 of the quarter as the Titans trailed by 11 at the break.

Douglas started an 8-2 run for the Titans in the third quarter as Osterman hit a 3-pointer to bring the Titans within five points at 41-36. The Titans offense was held to a single layup in the final five minutes of the third quarter, trailing the Warhawks by nine with one quarter to go.

­Vaile hit a layup for the Titans with 7:11 remaining in the fourth quarter on an assist from Hardwick. Hardwick provided the assists on two of the next three baskets for the Titans as Jenna Jorgensen and Osterman hit 3-pointers. Hardwick added two to her scoring line, bringing the Titans within 10 with 2:18 remaining. Vaile hit a 3-pointer in the final basket for the Titans as the Titans fell 67-55.

Next Time on the Court

The Titans travel to UW-La Crosse on February 11 to conclude the regular season series. The Titans and Eagles are set to tipoff at 3 p.m. in their final regular season road game.
