Titans Defeat Falcons on Senior Day; Extend Win Streak to Seven

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Senior day refused to be spoiled as the UW-Oshkosh Titans (17-5, 7-4 WIAC) defeated the UW-River Falls Falcons (13-9, 3-8 WIAC) in a close battle, 54-44. With the win, the Titans swept the regular season series over the Falcons.

The Titans seniors led the team in scoring as Ava Douglas recorded 17 points and Jenna Jorgensen added 11 points. Douglas went perfect from the free throw line (seven-for-seven) and went four-of-eight from the floor. Jorgensen went three-of-eight from the floor and five-of-seven from the line.

Although held to seven points, Kayce Vaile led the Titans in rebounding with 12 rebounds and three blocks.

The Titans shot 39.1% from the field (18-of-46) and were held to just two shots from behind the arc. The Titans went 16-of-20 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Falcons 33-30. Although matching the Falcons on steals (nine), the Titans recorded five assists in the contest.

Game Summary

Vaile had the first points of the afternoon for the Titans as the Titans trailed 6-2 after four-and-a-half minutes of play. ­Kennedy Osterman made a driving layup for the Titans as Vaile added a basket to tie the game at six. The Titans ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run as the Falcons did not score after the 6:30 mark.

Douglas made a trip to the free throw line early in the second quarter, extending the Titans lead to eight at 14-6. The Titans held the Falcons without a basket for nearly ten minutes as Macy Nilsen ended the Falcons scoring woes with a layup. Douglas put the Titans up by nine on a 3-pointer with 6:25 to play in the half. Jorgensen completed an old-fashioned three-point play to put the Titans up by 12 with just under five minutes to play. The Falcons went on a 10-2 run, bringing the game within four at 22-18. Sarah Hardwick hit the final shot of the half, as the Titans took a six-point lead at the break. 

Jorgensen knocked down the first basket of the third quarter for the Titans as the team's traded baskets early in the quarter. The Falcons continued to fight back, bringing the game within one before Hardwick made a jump shot with 2:57 remaining in the game. The Falcons tied the game at 34 on a 7-4 run to end the third quarter of play.

Douglas was the driving force to open the fourth quarter of play, scoring the Titans first five points in less than a minute. The Falcons' brought the game within two at 39-37 before the Titans started a 9-2 run. The Titans defense held the Falcons to four points in the final three minutes of play as the Titans won their seventh consecutive victory.
