Titans Cruise Past Lions

OSHKOSH, Wis.Sarah Hardwick recorded her fourth double-double of the season as the UW-Oshkosh Titans (15-5, 5-4 WIAC) defeated the Lions of Finlandia University (7-11), 83-49.

Hardwick led all scorers with 20 points going, eight-of-ten from the field and perfect from behind the arc. Hardwick led the Titans with 14 rebounds. Ava Douglas added 14 points on five-of-eight shooting and three-of-three from the free throw line.

The Titans shot 43.5% from the field (30-of-69), made nine 3-pointers, and went 14-of-18 from the free throw line. The Titans recorded a season high 48 rebounds.

Game Summary

It was a slow start to the game as Douglas had the first layup on the game for the Titans at the 6:27 mark. Olivia Argall and Kayce Vaile hit back-to-back 3-pointers as the Titans took control of the game. The Lions fought back to bring the game with five at 9-14 before Kennedy Osterman extended the lead to eight. Douglas scored the final five points of the first quarter for the Titans, taking a 24-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Titans defense held the Lions to six points in the first five minutes of the second quarter.  Hardwick scored five unanswered points for the Titans. The Titans held the Lions to 10 points in the quarter as Hardwick started the quarter the way she started. Hardwick scored the final eight points of the half.

The Titans opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run, taking a 31-point led with 6:31 remaining in the quarter. Following a layup by Hardwick at the 5:54 mark, the Titans were held without a basket for almost four minutes. Mackenzie Tlachac and Osterman made a pair of layups to end the third quarter for the Titans.

Opening the final quarter on an 8-0 run, the Titans built their lead back to 31 at 70-39. Jenna Jorgensen hit a pair of free throws as the Titans kept the defensive pressure up. The Titans did not allow a point from the Lions until the 3:49 mark with a pair of made free throws. Mallory Lindsey hit the final 3-pointer of the game for either squad as the Titans cruised to their fifth consecutive victory.

Looking at the Records

Hardwick joins a tie for eighth All-Time in field goal percentage in an individual game with eight made shots, the first since Isabella Samuels did in 2019. Hardwick joins a tie for seventh All-Time in rebounds in an individual game.

The Titans joined a tie for fifth All-Time in field goals attempted with 69, the first since UW-Stout in 2020.  The Titans joined a tie in the top-10 for 3-pointers attempted.

The Titans return to WIAC action, traveling to UW-Eau Claire on February 1 with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
