Titans Win Overtime Thriller

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.—Winning an overtime thriller, the UW-Oshkosh Titans women's basketball program defeated the Pioneers of UW-Platteville, 60-59. The Titans (14-5, 5-4 WIAC) extend their winning streak to four and hand the Pioneers their seventh conference loss (9-11, 2-7 WIAC).

Ava Douglas, who hit the game-winning free throw, led the Titans with 16 points. Recording a season-best 11 points, Olivia Argall went four-of-six from the field. Sarah Hardwick recorded her third double-double of the season (10 points, 11 rebounds).

The Titans went 35.2% from the field (19-of-54), went 73.9% from the free throw line (17-of-23), added 39 rebounds, 10 assists, and seven steals in the contest.

Game Summary         

Kayce Vaile and Kate Huml made back-to-back shots as the Titans jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the first quarter. Jenna Jorgensen hit a 3-pointer, on an assist from Douglas to put the Titans up by four at 7-3. The Pioneers would fight back to tie the game at seven with 4:39 remaining in the quarter. Three of the Titans last five points of the first quarter came from the free throw line as the Titans took a 12-10 lead.

The Titans and Pioneers tied the game twice in the opening 64 seconds of the second quarter as Hardwick started a 7-2 run for the Titans. Argall would connect with Mahra Wieman late in the quarter to put the Titans up by five, scoring the final points of the quarter for Oshkosh. The Pioneers ended the first half on a 7-0 run.

Tying the game quickly to start the third quarter, Douglas hit a layup in the paint to tie the game at 27. The Titans and Pioneers traded baskets and the lead four times over the course of the next two minutes in the game. The Pioneers went on an 11-2 run late in the quarter as the Titans trailed by seven to end the third quarter.

The Pioneers kept up the offensive pressure as the Titans trailed by 10 at 50-40 with 7:27 remaining in the fourth quarter. Leading off with a made free throw my Argall, the Titans went on a 12-0 run to lead 52-50 with 37 seconds remaining. The Pioneers hit a late basket to send the game to overtime.

An Argall 3-pointer put the Titans up by one at 55-54 as the Hardwick made a pair of free throws for a three-point lead. Douglas put the Titans up by three at 59-56 as the Pioneers made a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in overtime. Douglas drew a foul a time expired and made the first of two free throw attempts to seal the victory for the Titans.

The Titans return to Kolf Sports Center on January 27 as they host the Lions of Finlandia University. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
