Titans Cruise to First Conference Victory

RIVER FALLS, Wis.— Starting the game on a 17-2 run, the UW-Oshkosh Titans (10-4, 1-3 WIAC) women's basketball team captured their first conference win, defeating the UW River Falls Falcons (11-4, 1-3 WIAC), 64-53.

Jenna Jorgensen led the Titans with 10 points, going four-of-nine from the field and two-of-six from behind the arc. Kayce Vaile, Kate Huml, and Bridget Froehlke recorded nine points each for the Titans.

Vaile, Ava Douglas, and Avery Poole were perfect from the field. Vaile went four-of-four from the field. Douglas and Poole went three-of-three from the field.

The Titans shot 50% from the field (24-of-48) while shooting 81.8% from the field (9-of-11). The Titans collected 31 rebounds and saw four Titans record four rebounds each. The Titans collected 10 steals, eight blocks, and three blocks in the contest.

Game Summary

The Titans jumped out to a 17-2 lead early in the first quarter, keeping the Falcons in a scoring drought. Back-to-back 3-pointers by the Falcons started a 10-4 run, which trimmed the Titans lead to seven. Jorgensen hit a layup with 47 seconds remaining in the quarter to extend the Titans lead to nine.

The Falcons fought back in the second quarter, going on a 7-0 run. Douglas hit a jump shot at the 6:23 mark for the Titans first basket of the second quarter as Poole hit a pair of free throws for a six-point lead. The Falcons ended the half on a 6-2 run as the Titans continued to lead by two at half.

The Falcons would take a 32-29 lead in the third quarter for their only lead of the game. A layup by Jorgensen and 3-pointer from Huml gave the Titans a 34-32 lead before the Falcons tied the game for a final time. Jorgensen caught a pass from Huml for a 3-pointer as the Titans took the lead for a final time. Froehlke hit a pair of 3-pointers in 30 seconds as the Titans took a 10-point lead with 2:56 remaining in the third quarter.

Taking as 12-point lead into the final 10 minutes of play, the Titans opened the quarter on a 6-0 run. Vaile made a layup with 6:57 remaining and gave the Titans their largest lead of the game at 20. The Falcons hit a series of 3-pointers, trimming the Titans lead to 11 with 2:32 remaining in the game. Kennedy Osterman hit four free throws in a row as the Titans claimed their first conference victory.
