Titans Finish Second In Season Debut

Hannah Lohrenz, Alexandria Demco and Lauren Young ran to top-13 finishes as the UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team returned to competition with a second-place listing at the Concordia University Wisconsin Ken Weidt Classic held Saturday (Sept. 11) in Mequon.

UW-Oshkosh was kicking off its 2021 season after the Titans' 2020 campaign was canceled due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Saturday's meet was UW-Oshkosh's first since being represented at the NCAA Division III Championship held Nov. 23, 2019. 

UW-Oshkosh totaled 54 points in the team category to finish behind Lawrence University's winning score of 31. Defending champion St. Norbert College placed third in the six-team meet with 56 points while Concordia University Wisconsin ranked fourth with 88, Moody Bible Institute (Ill.) fifth with 152 and Mount Mary University sixth with 185.

Lohrenz paced UW-Oshkosh by finishing second among the meet's 72 runners with her time of 23:17.0. Demco placed seventh for the Titans in 24:38.1 and Young 13th in 25:26.5.

Lawrence University's Cristyn Oliver won the 6,000-meter race with a time of 22:59.2 while Viking teammate Riley Winebrenner finished third in 23:49.3.

The top-five individual performances also featured LaNea Bartel of Concordia University Wisconsin finishing fourth with a time of 23:59.6 and Olivia Eisch of St. Norbert College fifth in 24:12.6.

UW-Oshkosh owned six other finishers in the top 30 as Cyna Madigan placed 13th with a time of 25:35.4, Amelia Lehman 18th in 25:56.0, Sydney Fricke 20th in 26:00.8, Tricia Cich 22nd 26:19.4, Daisy Wilson 27th in 27:00.7 and Meygan Benzing 28th in 27:08.7.

Other Titans competing at the meet were Logan Krogwold, Madison Bertram, Julia Strasser, Katelyn Puetz, Olivia Schwarm and Paige Larson. Krogwold finished 39th with a time of 28:16.1, Bertram 42nd in 29:09.1, Strasser 43rd in 29:41.8, Puetz 47th in 30:08.6, Schwarm 56th in 31:20.4 and Larson 69th in 34:28.2.
