Women’s Cross Country Program Acknowledged For Academic Achievement

The UW-Oshkosh women's cross country program continues to be recognized for its academic performance.

Head coach Eamon McKenna's Titans compiled a 3.42 cumulative grade point average (GPA) this past fall semester to earn praise from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the fourth straight year.

A total of 215 NCAA Division III women's cross country programs ended the 2018 fall session with a 3.10 GPA or better, including LeTourneau University (Texas) which owned the top listing at 3.85.

The University of Dubuque (Iowa) ranked second to the Yellowjackets with a 3.84 GPA while Chatham University (Pa.) rated third at 3.83 and St. Catherine University (Minn.) fourth at 3.81.

Other WIAC programs honored for their academic success were UW-La Crosse at 3.51, UW-Eau Claire at 3.49, UW-Platteville and UW-Stout at 3.48, UW-Stevens Point at 3.42, UW-Whitewater at 3.29 and UW-River Falls at 3.21.

National champion Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) registered a 3.72 GPA this past fall and was named the USTFCCA's NCAA Division III Scholar Team of the Year.

UW-Oshkosh also had sophomore Hannah Lohrenz named to the USTFCCA's All-Academic Team.

Lohrenz, who owns a 3.40 cumulative GPA as a major in interactive web management, finished 50th last fall at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional and ninth at the WIAC Championship. She also placed fifth at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Fall Classic, sixth at the Lawrence University Gene Davis Invitational and 47th at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational.

Lohrenz helped UW-Oshkosh finish third at the WIAC Championship and 12th at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional last fall.

In order to be eligible for All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of least 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional meet. A total of 382 student-athletes received All-Academic honors, including 26 from the WIAC.

Paige Lawler of Washington University in St. Louis was named the USTFCCA's NCAA Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
