Titans Finish 17th At AAE Invitational

Host UW-Oshkosh finished 17th at the AAE Women's Cross Country Invitational held Saturday (Oct. 18) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

Hannah Kuenzi, who placed 53rd in a time of 22:25, was the first Titan to finish the 6,000-meter course. Teammate Kylee Verhasselt finished a few seconds later, ranking 59th with a time of 22:29.

Along with Kuenzi and Verhasselt, three other UW-Oshkosh runners finished in the top 165 as Cheyenne Moore placed 112th with a time of 23:02, Leah Rendflesh 137th in 23:13 and Isabella Tremonti 162nd in 23:27.

The meet's individual champion was Lucy Cheadle from Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.). Cheadle, who finished second in last year's meet, defeated 558 runners with her a time of 20:44.

Sophia Meehan from Johns Hopkins University (Md.) finished a distant second to Cheadle with a time of 20:56. Samantha Rivard from the University of Minnesota-Duluth placed third with a time of 20:58, while Allyson Winchester and Kendra Foley from Grand Valley State University finished fourth and fifth with times of 21:02 and 21:06, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh also had Danica Harrison finish 209th in 23:51, Courtney Holland 215th in 23:52, Sonny Jenkins 236th in 24:04, Rhea Fiorita 247th in 24:09 and Michaela Welsh 286th in 24:26.

Other UW-Oshkosh runners participating in the meet were Betsy Gray, Jessica Stamn, Alexandria Mahoney, Tess Harvatine, Emma Link, Michelle Draxler, Katya Wick, Kim Figueroa, Cammy Garvelink, Taylor Lindblad and Taylor Pralle.

Gray placed 303rd in 24:35, while Stamn finished 360th in 25:17, Mahoney 365th in 25:20, Harvatine 373rd in 25:23, Link 374th in 25:23, Draxler 415th in 26:03, Wick 435th in 26:19, Figueroa 452nd in 26:38, Garvelink 468th in 26:55, Lindblad 498th in 28:02 and Pralle 513th in 29:08.

Grand Valley State University, the top-ranked NCAA Division II team in the country, captured the team title with 40 points. The Lakers had all five of their scorers finish in the top-15 individual places.

NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Duluth finished second with 98 points, while NCAA Division III schools Johns Hopkins University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology placed third and fourth with 106 and 127 points, respectively. NCAA Division II Augustana College (S.D.) took fifth place with 135 points.

Rounding out the top-10 teams were sixth-place Calvin College (Mich.) with 203 points, seventh-place Washington University in St. Louis with 215, eighth-place Willamette University (Ore.) with 220, ninth-place University of Chicago (Ill.) with 286 and 10th-place St. Olaf College (Minn.) with 317. UW-Oshkosh finished 17th with 462 points.

This year's AAE Invitational, formerly called the Brooks Invitational, featured 45 men's and 42 women's teams from a total of 12 different states (Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin).

The next competition for the Titans is Friday (Oct. 24) at the UW-Oshkosh Open. The meet will be held at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
