Titans Break Program Win Streak Record With Sweep Of Inferno

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team set the program record winning steak at 30-0, with a sweep of Alverno College on Wednesday night (Oct. 30) at the Kolf Sports Center.

Wednesday was also both parents and senior night. Amelia Hust (Verona), Kalli Mau (Kimberly), Riley Kindt (Brookfield) and Maddy Pearson (Kimberly) were all honored before the match began.

The No. 2 nationally ranked Titans (30-0, 6-0 WIAC) burned the Inferno (2-21, 0-12 NACC) with set scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-8.

Joslyn Wolff (Jr. • Reeseville) led Oshkosh with a season-high 10 kills on 21 attacks. Three Titans followed with six each. Jaclyn Dutkiewicz (So. • Franklin) recorded 12 assists, and Izzy Coon (So. • Fond du Lac) recorded 10 while Abby Fregien (Jr. • Waukesha) led Oshkosh with 10 digs.

The Titans hit .337 on 98 total attacks with 42 kills and nine attack errors. They also held Alverno to just -0.019 on 105 total attacks with 12 kills and 14 attack errors.

A red-hot 12-1 run by the Titans was all they needed to cruise to the first set win.

The Inferno scored multiple points consecutively three times in the second set, however four runs of three or more points for Oshkosh put it away handily.

Alverno scored first in the third set and held the lead until a 4-0 spurt by the Titans changed the lead. Wolff hit a kill to get the serve back at 9-7, kicking off a season-best 16-point run. Kindt served 15 consecutive points in the run with four aces. Nine kills were hit across the possession, with four more from Wolff, and two from both from Hannah Moe (So. • Oconto) and Carly Stamm (Fr. • Winneconne).

Three players set personal accomplishments which helped the Titans break the record. Hust hit into the 1,000 digs club in the Sept. 15 match against Transylvania University (Ky.) match while Kindt joined the 1,000 kills club and Mau joined the 2,000 assists club in the match on Oct. 20 against North Park University (Ill.). Hust said she wasn't expecting much of the accomplishment, but her teammates surprised her. "My team made it super special and really came around me to make me feel so good".

On the way to setting the record, the Titans defeated seven teams in the current American Coaches Volleyball Association poll. Notable wins came against then-ranked No. 7 UW-Whitewater on Sept. 20 and then-ranked No. 23 Washington University in St. Louis on Oct. 13. Oshkosh beat the Warhawks for the first time since 2015 and swept them for the first time since 1994. The win also helped Oshkosh secure at least a share of the WIAC regular season title. In St. Louis on Oct. 13, the Titans defeated the Bears for the very first time in program history, previously holding an all-time record of 0-15 against WashU.

The Titans will return to action on Friday (Nov. 3), traveling to face UW-La Crosse (16-13, 0-6 WIAC) for a 7 p.m. start. Oshkosh will look to take sole ownership of the league regular season title in the match.
