Titans Beat Cardinals In Three Sets

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team swept North Central College (Ill.) in their final match of the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 23).

The No. 3 nationally ranked Titans beat the Cardinals in sets of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-17.

UW-Oshkosh (17-0, 1-0 WIAC) led North Central (9-4, 1-1 CCIW) in all offensive categories with 49 kills, a .340 kill percentage, 47 assists and four aces. The Titans also recorded 38 digs, 10 more than the Cardinals.

Riley Kindt registered a .500 kill percentage with 16 kills on 24 attacks. Sami Perlberg also hit 13 kills on 26 attacks for a .385 kill percentage. Izzy Coon had 22 assists and Kalli Mau had 19.

UWO had the first lead of the first set and further extended their lead with two four point runs. The team led by as much as 10 points during the set and finished with an 11-point decision.

In the second set, the Cardinals scored the first point and built up a 13-9 lead with three three-point runs. After a service error by Coon, Kindt kicked off an eight-point spurt with a kill. Joslyn Wolff recorded three kills during the run. Maddy Pearson and Riley Dahlquist finished the set with consecutive kills.

North Central took the early lead again in the third set, but UWO responded with three points to take the lead. After North Central tied the set at 3-3, the Titans built up a comfortable lead with a nine point run. Perlberg and Kindt both pitched in on the run with three kills. The Cardinals scored five to bring the score to 15-11 and brought the lead down to four points two more times, however UWO kept them at arm's length the whole set.

Riley Kindt and Sami Perlberg were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Titans will return home for their conference-play opening match against No. 20 UW-Stevens Point (10-2, 1-0 WIAC) on Tuesday (Sept. 26) at 7 p.m. Tuesday is Community Night at Kolf Sports Center. Attendance is free and the first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a Titan fan, courtesy of 4Imprint. The Titans will also attempt to break the NCAA Division III regular season attendance record of 3,051, set at a match between Hope College (Mich.) and Calvin University (Mich.) during the 2013 season.
