Titans Conclude Marty Petersen Invitational With A Pair Of Wins

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Sami Perlberg and Riley Dahlquist earned All-Tournament team honors to lead the UW-Oshkosh volleyball team to two more wins to close out the Marty Petersen Invitational (Sept. 9) in Kolf Sports Center. 

The Titans' record remains unblemished this season. After adding a win over Millikin University (Ill.) 3-1, and executing a clean 3-0 sweep over the Milwaukee School of Engineering, the Titans continue their best start to a season since 2014 at 10-0. 

The Titans battled with the Millikin Big Blue, putting up set scores of 23-25, 31-29, 16-25, 22-25, and swept the Raiders of MSOE with scores of 13-25, 13-25, 20-25. 

Perlberg has emerged as a consistent leader for the Titans this season, and added an additional 52 total kills on the weekend. During the invitational, she put up double-digit kills in every match and led the team in kills in all except one. 

Dahlquist has started every match for the Titans this season. She leads the team in both aces with 18 and blocks with six, three of each she earned during the Titans' win over Millikin. 

In its win over Millikin, UW-Oshkosh held the advantage 63-52 in kills, .239 to .174 in hitting percentage, 61-48 in assists and 89-82 in digs. The Big Blue held onto a 10-7 advantage in service aces and 5-3 in blocks. 

The Titans held the Big Blue to a .029 hitting percentage in set three, while maintaining their own rate of .310 to regain their momentum after their fall in the second set. 

Perlberg led the team with 16 kills on .533 hitting with 30 swings and no errors. Three other Titans added on double-digit kills including 12 by Robyn Kirsch, 10 by Riley Kindt and a career-high 10 for Maddy Pearson. Further, Dahlquist accounted for all three of the Titans' blocks.

Of the seven aces, Dalquist also accounted for three, while Izzy Coon chipped in two. The other two were added on by Perlberg and Kalli Mau

Mau led the way in assists with 29, followed closely by Coon with 24. 

Abby Fregien, once again, led the team in digs with 18. Other major contributors to the team's 89 total assists were Perlberg with 13, Amelia Hust and Kirsch with 12, Coon with 11, and Olivia Breunig, Kindt, Mau, and Dahlquist with 5 each. 

The Big Blue were led by Kailee Itzenhuiser with 21 kills, Sophia Howell with 22 digs, and Alyssa Frederking with 26 assists. 

In the victory over MSOE, a total of 20 different players contributed to the sweeping win. Recording their first career appearances for the Titans were Malia Winchel, Emily Lamb and  Carly Stamm

Perlberg led the team in kills with 11, hitting .429 on 21 attempts. Twelve other Titans added to the team's 44 terminations including Kindt with 7, Joslyn Wolff and Breunig with 5, Dahlquist with 4, Hannah Moe, Angie Blinderman, Brooke Porter and Emmy Wizceb all with 2, and Mau, Lauren Lang, Coon and Pearson with one each. Wizceb claimed the sole block of the match.

Coon and Mau shared in the setting duties with 17 and 14 assists respectively. 

Bella Rio accounted for two of the team's six aces. Fregien tallied another 20 digs to lead the Titan defense. 

MSOE was led by Ana Knutson with seven kills and Morgan Borchardt with 18 assists. 

The Titans are on the road again next Friday (Sept. 15) when they travel to Whitewater for the two day UW-Whitewater Invitational. They will face No. 16 Transylvania University (Ky.) on Friday at 4 p.m. and both No. 5 University of Northwestern (Minn.) and the College of St. Benedict (Minn.) on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m, respectively.
