Nationally Ranked UWO's Win Streak Reaches 10 Matches

WHEATON, Ill.–The nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to 10 matches with victories over host Wheaton College and Edgewood College on Tuesday (Oct. 11) in Wheaton's King Arena.

UW-Oshkosh (21-4), ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, defeated Wheaton, 3-2, in set scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-17, 15-4. The Titans then downed Edgewood, 3-0, in scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-20.

The Titans have now won five of their last seven meetings with Wheaton (9-9) and eight straight versus Edgewood (11-8).

UW-Oshkosh reached 20 wins for the first time since 2019 and owns a 10-match winning streak for the first time since going 15-0 to open the 2014 campaign. The Titans also achieved their highest position in the AVCA poll since being ranked 15th on Oct. 26, 2010.

The Titans overcame a slow start and cruised to win in the final three sets during the team's fifth five-set match this season.

UW-Oshkosh completed its comeback by outhitting Wheaton, .382 to .083, in the third set, .314 to .069 during Set 4 and .579 to .050 in the fifth frame.

Carissa Sundholm led all players with 22 kills on .302 hitting for the Titans, who also received 16 terminations from Riley Kindt, a career-high 14 from Joslyn Wolff and 10 by Riley Dahlquist. Kindt hit .452, Wolff .375 and Dahlquist .346.

Dahlquist's 10 kills were one shy of tying a season best. Kindt had a team-leading four blocks. Sundholm headed into the day 18th in the country in total kills.

Kalli Mau dished out 32 assists and delivered three service aces for UW-Oshkosh. Izzy Coon recorded 24 assists, 14 digs and three aces while co-piloting the Titans offense. The double-double was Coon's seventh of the year.

Abby Fregien, who entered the match fourth nationally in total digs, once again paced the Titans backrow defense with a match-high 21 digs to go along with a season high-tying four aces. Amelia Hust chipped in 10 digs for her 10th double-digit effort of the year.

UW-Oshkosh finished the match with advantages of 73-48 in kills, .324 to .194 in hitting percentage, 72-66 in digs, 12-6 in aces and 7-3 in blocks. The Titans went into Tuesday leading the division in total digs while ranking sixth in both kills and assists, 14th in blocks, and 20th in both winning percentage and digs per set.

Wheaton never trailed in the opening set and pulled out a narrow Set 2 victory by scoring four of the final five points after UW-Oshkosh knotted the score at 21 on a Wolff kill.

The Titans responded by racing out to leads of 8-2 in the third set, 17-12 during the fourth frame and 5-0 in the fifth.

A run of six consecutive points extended the Titan cushion to 17-5 in Set 3 following a pair of Wolff kills, two Fregien aces, a Dahlquist termination and a Thunder attack error. Wheaton denied five set-points to cut its deficit to 24-12, but Maddy Pearson capped the frame with a kill.

The Titans never trailed again in the match after Kindt tied the fourth set at 7 with a kill. UW-Oshkosh went on to lead each point after a Thunder error allowed the Titans an 8-7 edge. Leading 22-17 in the fourth frame, the Titans tallied the final three points on a Kindt kill, a Kindt block and a Wolff termination on set-point.

Set 5 was all Titans, opening the frame with a pair of Sundholm kills, a Wolff termination, a Hust service ace and a double-block from Dahlquist and Pearson en route to a 5-0 advantage. UW-Oshkosh later put the match away with a string of six unanswered points for a 14-3 cushion. The six-point run featured two kills apiece by Kindt and Wolff, one Olivia Breunig termination and a Thunder attack error. Wolff then capped her career-best performance with a kill two points later.

Caroline Capps paced Wheaton with 16 kills to go along with 13 digs.

UW-Oshkosh used a balanced attack on the way to picking up its eighth consecutive victory in the series as Kindt and Wolff both pounded down a team-high 10 kills, Sundholm added nine terminations, Breunig eight, Dahlquist seven and Pearson four.

Dahlquist hit .583 on 12 errorless swings and led all players with six blocks.

Mau and Coon had 24 and 16 assists, respectively for the Titans, who also received 13 digs from Fregien, nine digs from Hust, and four blocks and two aces from Sundholm.

The Titans owned advantages of 48-37 in kills, .308 to .159 in hitting percentage, 51-50 in digs and 7-4 in blocks. Edgewood held a 7-4 edge in service aces.

UW-Oshkosh took the lead to stay at 9-8 in the first set following a Pearson kill. The Titans cushion ballooned to 23-16 after four straight points, including three on terminations from Sundholm, Dahlquist and Wolff. Another Pearson kill provided set-point at 24-17, and the Titans clinched the frame three points later on an Eagles attack error.

Set 2, which featured five lead changes was tied for the ninth and final time at 23 before a double-block by Dahlquist and Sundholm preceded an Edgewood attack error on consecutive points.

Edgewood got out to a 7-4 lead in the third set, but UW-Oshkosh pulled even at 16 following a Dahlquist termination and reclaimed the lead for good at 17-16 on a Dahlquist solo block. A Breunig kill gave the Titans match-point at 24-18, and Kindt's termination culminated the sweep three points later.

Abigail Hoffmann had a team-best 11 kills and 11 assists for the Eagles. Hoffmann went into the night ranked second in the nation with four triple-doubles.

Edgewood's Abbey Falk, who entered the day 15th nationally at 1.14 blocks per set, notched just one block against the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh returns home to host UW-River Falls on Saturday (Oct. 15) for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match in Kolf Sports Center.
