Titans Win Twice At Home

The UW-Oshkosh volleyball team opened its home slate with a pair of victories Wednesday (Sept. 7), defeating St. Norbert College, 3-0, and Lakeland University by a 3-1 score during the UW-Oshkosh Quadrangular in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh (5-1) swept St. Norbert in set scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-19 before downing Lakeland in scores of 21-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-16.

The Titans pounded down 45 kills with a .290 hitting percentage en route to defeating St. Norbert for the eighth time in the past nine meetings. UW-Oshkosh collected 16 kills on .268 hitting in Set 1, 14 kills on .229 hitting in Set 2 and 15 kills on .387 hitting in Set 3.

St. Norbert (0-4) mustered just 28 kills and hit .088.

Riley Kindt and Carissa Sundholm paced UW-Oshkosh with 10 kills apiece. Kindt accounted for a match-leading 14 points by adding four blocks.

Robyn Kirsch and Hannah Moe both chipped in seven kills for the Titans, who also received six terminations on nine errorless swings from Olivia Breunig, 22 assists from Kalli Mau, 17 assists from Izzy Coon, 15 digs from Abby Fregien and a pair of service aces from Amelia Hust.

Brooke Clement had a team-best nine kills and seven digs for the Green Knights.

UW-Oshkosh raced out to a 13-6 lead in the opening set following a string of four straight points that included terminations by Moe and Kirsch followed by a Riley Dahlquist service ace. The Titans later clinched the frame after a Kindt kill and a Kindt block on consecutive points.

The second set was tied for the seventh and final time at 23, when a Breunig kill and a Green Knights attack error culminated the frame.

The Titans then seized control of the third set with five points in a row for a 20-15 advantage. The five-point run was highlighted by a Brooke Porter kill, a Kate Nottoli service ace and a pair of Kindt blocks. UW-Oshkosh closed out the victory with a Sundholm termination on the second match-point.

Kindt (17), Kirsch (15), Sundholm (13) and Moe (8) combined for 53 kills as the Tians improved to 26-1 against Lakeland since 1989.

Kindt, who hit .464 on 28 attempts, finished one kill shy of a career high while Kirsch hit .324 and established a new career best in terminations. Moe and Sundholm, who added nine digs, hit .571 and .237, respectively, versus the Muskies.

UW-Oshkosh's Mau dished out 26 assists, Coon distributed 18 assists, Fregien scooped up 21 digs, and Hust contributed 14 digs and four service aces.

The Titans concluded the match with considerable advantages of in 57-35 kills and .262 to .128 in hitting percentage.

After Lakeland (3-3) maintained a lead for the entirety of the opening set, UW-Oshkosh trailed for just six total points for the remainder of the match. The Titans led wire-to-wire during the second frame, building cushions of 13-8 following a Breunig kill and 23-14 after a Muskies attack error.

UW-Oshkosh reclaimed leads for good at 7-6 in the third set and at 5-4 during the fourth frame. The Titans closed out the third set on a Moe kill and the final frame on a Lakeland service error.

Emily Duchow had 26 assists and 11 digs while directing the Muskies offense that featured six kills each from Susana Stevens, Katie Metzler and Isabella Westerholm.

UW-Oshkosh remains at home to host the nine-team M.V.P. Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 9-10) in Kolf Sports Center. The Titans are set to play Marian University and Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Friday before taking on Bethel (Minn.) and Millikin (Ill.) universities Saturday.
