Women’s Volleyball Program Earns Team Academic Award

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball program was recognized for its academic success by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the third time in four years and fourth time overall.

Head coach Jon Ellmann's Titans compiled a 3.59 cumulative grade-point average during the 2020-21 academic year to earn one of the 233 NCAA Division III Team Academic Awards from the AVCA and the United States Marine Corps.

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year. The award honors collegiate volleyball programs that displayed excellence in the classroom by achieving at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale during the school year.

UW-Oshkosh, which didn't compete during the 2020-21 academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, had seven of its 21 team members surpass a 3.90 cumulative GPA for the two semesters. Titans Shelby Coron, Kate Nottoli and Brianna Vettese each recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA during the recently concluded academic year while Carissa Sundholm followed at 3.963, Taylor Allen at 3.943, Riley Kindt at 3.930 and Emma Kiekhofer at 3.904.

Other WIAC programs receiving Team Academic Awards for its performance in the classroom this past year were UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh previously earned Team Academic Awards for the 2005-06, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

The Titans open their 2021 season against California Lutheran University on Sept. 3 in Claremont, Calif. UW-Oshkosh's first home match is against Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Sept. 10.
