Ellmann Named Head Women's Volleyball Coach

UW-Oshkosh Assistant Chancellor, Director of Athletics Darryl Sims announced today (Jan. 23) that Jon Ellmann has been named the school's head women's volleyball coach after serving as the program's interim head coach since August.

"After going through a number of applications and closely reviewing Jon's work, it became clear to our search committee that he is the right person to lead our women's volleyball program," said Sims. "Jon has a strong vision for our future and has made a significant impact on our student-athletes during his time here as both an assistant coach and interim head coach."

Ellmann guided UW-Oshkosh to a 20-15 record in 2017, including a 3-4 mark in the WIAC. The Titans reached the semifinal round of the conference tournament and won seven of their last eight matches of the year.

"My family and I are extremely grateful to be a part of UW-Oshkosh volleyball," said Ellmann, the fourth head coach in the 38-year history of the program. "I look forward to working with our entire athletics department and can't wait to hit the ground running with our team."

Before coaching the Titans in an interim capacity, Ellmann was the volleyball program's top assistant coach during the 2016 season, when UW-Oshkosh compiled a 28-8 record and earned a share of its second straight WIAC title.

"UW-Oshkosh has a storied history and a tradition of success that has spanned decades," Ellmann said. "Our extremely talented and high-character group of current student-athletes, incoming class, future recruits, and coaching staff are excited and motivated to build upon the strong foundation that was laid before us. I can't wait to get to work."

Ellmann, who played for the UW-Oshkosh men's club volleyball team, returned to UW-Oshkosh after coaching 17 years at the high school level, including 11 seasons as the head coach at Lourdes Academy in Oshkosh from 2005-15. He began his coaching career with the Gibraltar High School freshman and junior varsity teams from 1999-2003 before becoming an assistant varsity coach at Lourdes Academy in 2004.

Ellmann also has extensive coaching experience at the club level, leading the Wisconsin Volleyball Academy (WVA), the largest volleyball club in Wisconsin, since 2008 as its co-director and head coach. Ellmann and the WVA have helped 107 girls earn an opportunity to play volleyball at the collegiate level, including 38 at Division III, 31 at Division I and 26 at Division II.

Prior to joining the WVA, Ellmann was the director and head coach of the Nightmares Volleyball Club from 2004-08.

Ellmann, who served as president of the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association from 2009-16, is the owner of ABD Athletics LLC, which is dedicated to the skill development of student-athletes and the promotion of the sport of volleyball in Wisconsin.

Ellmann earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from UW-Oshkosh in 2012 and 2014, respectively. The Gibraltar High School graduate lives in Oshkosh with his wife, Jackie, and daughter, Molly.
