Titans Record 27th Straight Win Over Yellowjackets

Katelyn Malcheski had 15 kills on 23 attempts to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win at UW-Superior on Friday (Oct. 31).

UW-Oshkosh (28-6, 4-3 WIAC) is tied for third place in the WIAC standings with one match to play. However, the Titans must win at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Nov. 1) to earn a berth into the six-team WIAC Championship. UW-Oshkosh would be either the third or fourth seed with a win on Saturday.

UW-Superior (12-22, 1-6 WIAC) remained in eighth place with the loss to UW-Oshkosh.

Laura Trochinski added 12 kills on .524 hitting for the Titans, who averaged 15 kills per set. Nerissa Vogt contributed eight kills and a team-high four blocks. Lexi Thiel had 26 assists and a team-best nine digs.

UW-Oshkosh held considerable advantages in kills (45-32), hitting percentage (.348 to .140), assists (41-32) and service aces (8-2). It was a season-best hitting percentage for the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh recorded 16 kills on .370 hitting in Set 1, 12 kills on .242 hitting in Set 2 and 17 kills for a .448 percentage in Set 3.

UW-Superior opened the match with four straight points, but the Titans regained an 11-10 lead and never trailed during the remainder of the opening set. A three-point run by the Yellowjackets tied it at 19, but UW-Oshkosh responded with the next three points on kills by Vogt and Trochinski and a UW-Superior attack error.

Tied at 8 in Set 2, the Titans registered 10 of the next 11 points, which included three kills apiece by Malcheski and Trochinski and three service aces.

UW-Oshkosh seized control of the third set with six consecutive points for a 21-14 lead and the Yellowjackets never threatened.

Stephanie Bandelin led UW-Superior with 10 kills, while Keely Deadrick had a match-high 29 assists.
