Titans Split Non-League Matches With Blue Devils, Eagles

The 25th-ranked UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team lost 3-0 to UW-Stout and defeated UW-La Crosse, 3-1, in non-conference matches at the UW-La Crosse Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 4).

Set scores were 25-23, 25-14 and 25-22 against UW-Stout and 25-20, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-15 against UW-La Crosse. It was UW-Stout's first sweep over UW-Oshkosh (17-2) since 2004. The Titans' win over UW-La Crosse snapped a two-match losing streak to the Eagles.

Katelyn Malcheski led the Titans in kills both matches and totaled 24 on her way to being named to the four-member all-tournament team. Hayley Rickmeier contributed 14 kills, while Jessica Fischer added 12. Morgan Cizauskas had 65 of UW-Oshkosh's 73 assists, while Mandy Trautmann led the team in digs both matches and finished play with 43.

In the loss to UW-Stout, UW-Oshkosh hit a combined .015 and had 14 attack errors in the first two sets.

The Titans rebounded to hit .345 with 12 kills in Set 3, but the Blue Devils had 18 kills in the final frame to complete the sweep.

UW-Stout held advantages in kills (45-27), hitting percentage (.293 to .115), service aces (7-2), digs (51-42) and blocks (6-4).

Malcheski had nine kills and Trautmann 15 digs for the Titans.

Molly Brion had a match-high 12 kills for UW-Stout (12-6), while Karley Wiensch added 37 assists and 11 digs.

In the win over UW-La Crosse, Malcheski tallied 13 kills to lead three Titans in double figures. She also took part in four blocked shots.

Rickmeier had a season-high 11 kills. Fischer added 10 kills, while Brooke Brinkman contributed nine kills and four blocks. Cizauskas had her second double-double in three matches with 42 assists and 12 digs. Trautmann had a match-high 24 digs and Rachel Smith 18.

The Eagles held a 6-4 advantage in service aces, but the Titans recorded more kills (52-42), digs (76-73), blocks (12-6) and hit for a better percentage (.175 to .073). UW-Oshkosh hit for a higher percentage in all four sets.

UW-La Crosse (8-11) hit a combined .033 in sets one, two and four, including -.022 in the fourth.

Leah Putzier paced UW-La Crosse with nine kills, while Jaclyn Barrette had 31 assists and 10 digs.

UW-Oshkosh finished with a 2-1 record at the UW-La Crosse Invitational. UW-Stout went 2-0, Luther College (Iowa) 1-2 and UW-La Crosse 0-2.

The Titans play their next four matches at home, beginning with Friday's (Oct. 10) contest in Kolf Sports Center against UW-River Falls.
