Titans Defeat Norse In Four Sets

Katelyn Malcheski tied her season high with 17 kills to lead the 25th-ranked UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Luther College (Iowa) on Friday (Oct. 3) at the UW-La Crosse Invitational. The Titans won the match in set scores of 24-26, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-19.

UW-Oshkosh (16-1) held advantages in kills (54-49), hitting percentage (.228 to .123), digs (81-69) and blocks (11-3). Luther College had a slight edge in service aces (4-3), but the Norse also had more attack errors (29-18).

Lexi Thiel added 10 kills on .409 hitting for the Titans. Brooke Brinkman had seven kills on .353 hitting to go along with a match-high five blocks.

Morgan Cizauskas led all players with 46 assists to go along with 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Mandy Trautmann paced UW-Oshkosh's back row with a season-high 33 digs. Rachel Smith and Laura Trochinski chipped in with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh lost the opening set despite recording 15 kills and hitting .300. Luther College registered 13 kills and .162 hitting.

The Titans had 14 kills in Set 2, 15 kills in Set 3 and 10 kills in Set 4.

Luther College (12-10) hit .000 and had 12 attack errors in Set 4.

Leah Broderick had 15 kills and McKinzy Lohberger 11 to lead the Norse.

The Titans remain in La Crosse to play non-conference matches against UW-Stout and UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 4).
