UW-Oshkosh Announces Summer Volleyball Camps

UW-Oshkosh Announces Summer Volleyball Camps

The UW-Oshkosh volleyball program is pleased to announce that it will be hosting six volleyball camps throughout the summer of 2014 to help both boys and girls reach their full potential and get ready for the upcoming high school season.

UW-Oshkosh starts things off with its Girls All-Skills Camp from June 30-July 3 that is geared for those entering grades 4-12 and want to work on all aspects of volleyball. Coaches will give you helpful hints on serving, passing, setting and blocking, as well as hitting instruction on footwork and offensive strategies. Camp 1 will also include six-on-six drills and a team tournament. This camp will be divided into appropriate skill levels.

In what has grown into UW-Oshkosh's most popular camp, the Girls Elite All-Skills Camp will be offered July 6-8 and promises to work even the most seasoned player. Camp 2 is designed for elite girls entering grades 6-12 and will challenge participants in the areas of serving, passing, setting and blocking. Hitting strategies such as quick attack and transition will be covered, and at least one specific position session will be offered. The camp will also include a four-on-four tournament, a team tournament to showcase what you have learned and a camp all-star match. Divided by both skill level and age, 180 girls attended this camp last summer with an 8:1 coach-to-camper ratio.

The Girls Elite Position Camp will give campers the opportunity to work in their individual volleyball position from July 9-11. Camp 3 participants will compete in drills covering serving and passing, play in a team tournament and get plenty of instruction in setting, middle blocking, right-side hitting, left-side hitting or playing back row. You decide! This camp is designed for elite girls entering grades 7-12 that have a strong desire to increase their skill level in one or two positions. Girls with a strong volleyball background are encouraged to attend this camp. You will be divided by both skill level and age so every participant gets the most out of camp.

Are you a young man entering grades 7-12 and looking for a challenging camp? Then look no further than the Boys Individual and Team Camp held August 7-10. Camp 4 will include nine sessions of skill work, hitting strategies, specific position sessions and a team tournament. Participants from the same high school can sign up as a team to guarantee they will play together in the six-on-six tournaments. Sign up as a team with at least eight participants and receive $25 off each registration fee. Last year seven high school teams participated in a gym full of 95 campers. UW-Oshkosh has won six collegiate club national championships in its history, including three at the Division I level. Come learn from the best!

For more than 25 years, UW-Oshkosh has offered its Girls High School Team Camp for freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams. Held from August 11-14, camp 5 is unique in that it offers lots of tournament play, team-building sessions and a host of activities that get your team ready for the season. The camp will once again have its Survivor Series theme-based contests and challenges, skit night and volleyball drills to challenge the entire squad. Come and make some memories as you have fun on and off the court. Sign up as a team with at least eight participants and receive $25 off each registration fee.

Want to get ready for your season right before it begins? Then the Girls Preseason Individual Camp from August 15-17 is right for you. Camp 6 will focus on drills designed for all areas of volleyball, including serving, passing, setting, hitting and blocking. The camp is geared for girls entering grades 6-12 and will get you a ton of touches on the ball right before tryouts. Like all the UW-Oshkosh volleyball camps, you will be divided by skill level and age. This camp will be taught exclusively by the UW-Oshkosh coaches and current team members.

Your fee for the camps includes the cost of tuition, food and a camp gift. Air-conditioned housing with a microwave, freezer and refrigerator is also included if you are a resident. The resident hall, cafeteria and sports complexes are all within one block, and camp staff stays in the dorm to not only get to know you, but also to ensure that you are safe.

If you would like a camp brochure, contact UW-Oshkosh head coach and camp director Brian Schaefer at 920-424-1392 or schaefeb@uwosh.edu and one will be sent to you. You can register online at http://volleyball.uwoshkoshsportscamps.com.

New this year is group pricing. If you sign up as a group from the same volleyball club, middle school or high school for any of our camps, you will receive $25 off each registration fee. The registrations must be mailed in together to be eligible for the discount.

"At UW-Oshkosh, I believe that we have built a tradition of providing a great experience for players of all skill levels," Schaefer said. "We take the time to get to know you so we can bring the best out of you on the court. My assistant coaches and I are in the gym to make sure you are getting the best instruction possible. I would like to have the opportunity to show you our brand of volleyball at UW-Oshkosh, and I hope to see you here this summer."
