18th-Ranked Warhawks Overpower Titans

UW-Whitewater hit better than 32 percent in each set during its 3-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team on Wednesday (Oct. 24) in Whitewater.

The Warhawks (22-10, 4-2 WIAC), ranked 18th in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, posted a hitting percentage of .363 for the match. UW-Whitewater won the contest with scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-20.

The Titans (18-16, 2-4 WIAC) overcame a 5-1 deficit in the first set to tie the score at 11. UW-Whitewater then went on a 12-3 scoring run to pull away. The second set was close throughout until the Warhawks tallied the final three points. UW-Whitewater jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the third set and maintained a margin of at least two points the rest of the way.

UW-Whitewater's Leanna Lillge led all players with 18 kills. The Warhawks also received 10 kills from Brittney Langley, 12 digs from Kelsey Nobilio and 38 assists from Kim Frei. Frei ranks ninth in the country with an average of 11 assists per set.

UW-Oshkosh was led by seven kills from Katelyn Malcheski (Fr. • Little Suamico) and 15 assists by Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend). Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.) chipped in with eight digs, as Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) and Presley Neuman (So. • Appleton) counted six kills each.

After hitting .000 in the first set, the Titans finished at .120. UW-Oshkosh posted a .200 success rate in the second set and a .162 figure in the third.

The Titans return home for a match against UW-Stout on Friday (Oct. 26) in Kolf Sports Center.
