JC advances to semifinal round match at 4:30 p.m.
on Nov. 21...JC ranked first in the NCAA Div. III
by the AVCA, UWO seventh...UWO suffers first loss
in 21 matches...UWO finishes fifth in country...JC wins
eighth straight match, including its sixth consecutive by
a 3-0 score...JC won NCAA Div. III titles in 2004 and 2006,
while finishing second in the country in 1981, 1993, 1996,
1997 and 2005...UWO, which finished second in the NCAA Div. III
in 1994 and fourth in 1991 and 1996, concludes its 13th NCAA Div. III
postseason appearance...JC's Thomas is the 2008 NCAA Div. III
Player of the Year...The match also featured four other 2008
All-Americans, Sollenberger (Second Team) and Strauss (Second Team)
of JC and Cahoon (First Team) and Ray (Third Team) of UWO...Just UWO's
20th loss in its last 160 matches...Fourth NCAA postseason meeting between
teams...UWO concludes its seventh 40-plus-win season in school history.
Set One: JC built a 10-5 lead before UWO tied it at 15...JC then took
leads of 21-17 and 23-21...JC never trailed...JC won set despite
nine errors...UWO's Mauer had six kills, while JC's Albert had four.
Set Two: JC took 4-0 lead before UWO tied it 5...JC scored five
straight points to take a 13-7 lead...JC then took leads of 15-10, 18-11
and 22-12...Thomas had six kills and Albert three for JC, while Ray
had five for UWO.
Set Three: UWO took 1-0 lead for its first advantage of match...UWO
also owned a 4-2 lead before JC scored five straight points to take a
a 7-4 advantage...The set was tied at 7 and 9 before JC took the lead
for good at 10-9...JC then went on to post advantages of 14-11, 18-14
and 23-19...JC received four kills from both Albert and Thomas, while
UWO obtained two kills and eight assists from Vara.
