Titans Unable To Catch Pointers

UW-Stevens Point kept its unbeaten start to the 2021-22 season alive by defeating UW-Oshkosh, 9-0, in a women's tennis match held Wednesday (Sept. 29) at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Tennis Courts.

The Pointers, who defeated the Titans for just the 14th time in the last 41 meetings, have won all 13 of their matches this season, including a pair in WIAC play.

UW-Oshkosh (0-4, 0-2 WIAC) engraved its best results against UW-Stevens Point at No. 1 and No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.

In the No. 1 singles contest, UW-Oshkosh's Michelle Spicer lost a 6-3, 4-6 (10-2) decision to Barbara Covek.

The No. 4 singles challenge had the Titans' Hannah Stitt lose a 6-3, 6-3 verdict to Kaylee Woelfel.

Spicer and Jenna Nolde lost their No. 1 doubles competition by an 8-3 score to Covek and Jenna Koepp.

Grace Henes and Chloe Leithold gave UW-Stevens Point the win at No. 2 doubles with their 8-1 victory over Stitt and Alyssa Pattee.

Other UW-Stevens Point individual winners were Faith Leithold in the first flight, Kaitlyn Hess in the third and Jordan Scharf in the fifth. Leithold defeated Pattee, 6-0, 6-1, while Hess ousted Nolde, 6-1, 6-1. Scharf was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Alessandra Rivera.

Winning on a forfeit for UW-Stevens Point were Henes at No. 6 singles and Hess and Faith Leithold at No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-River Falls (0-6, 0-2 WIAC) on Saturday (Oct. 2) for another WIAC contest.
