Freshmen Tandem Leads Titans At UW-Whitewater Invitational

A seventh-place finish by Jenna Nolde and Alyssa Pattee at No. 1 doubles paced the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational held Saturday (Sept. 4) in Whitewater.

Nolde and Pattee compiled a 1-2 record in the tournament, including an 8-2 victory over Anna Cooper and Maria Poehls of Illinois Wesleyan University in their seventh-place match. The UW-Oshkosh freshmen duo opened the event with defeats of 8-0 to Lindsey Henderson and Clare Palen of UW-Eau Claire and 8-2 to Caitlyn Hanulikova and Lauren Oda of Augustana College (Ill.).

UW-Whitewater scored 47 points to win the eight-team tournament. The Warhawks were followed by second-place Grinnell College (Iowa) with 43 points and third-place UW-La Crosse with 32.

UW-Eau Claire ranked fourth in the team standings with 29 points while Augustana College placed fifth with 20, Carthage College sixth with 18, Illinois Wesleyan University seventh with seven and UW-Oshkosh eighth with six.

The 50th edition of the tournament featured three flights of both singles and doubles competitions.

UW-Oshkosh was entered in four other categories on Saturday and finished eighth with 0-3 records in each one. Competing for the Titans were Michelle Spicer at No. 1 singles, Alessandra Rivera at No. 2 singles, Jade Schwichow at No. 3 singles and Angie Carini and Hannah Stitt at No. 2 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh returns to action Tuesday (Sept. 7) with a nonconference match at Lawrence University.
