Titans Fall Short During Challenge Against Falcons

UW-Oshkosh's Michelle Spicer won competitions at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles during the Titans' 6-3 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis loss to UW-River Falls on Saturday (April 17) at Valley Fitness & Racquet in Neenah.

Spicer and Maddie Toboyek gave UW-Oshkosh an early 1-0 lead over the Falcons with their 8-0 victory over Kailey Courteau and Abbie Reed at No. 1 doubles.

UW-River Falls (2-6, 2-3 WIAC) then won three of the next four contests before Spicer defeated Courteau, 6-3, 6-2, in their No. 1 singles battle.

Prior to Spicer's individual win, Toboyek earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Reed at No. 2 singles.

UW-Oshkosh's Madeline Beck played well during her hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (5) loss to Delaney Osmond at No. 5 singles.

UW-River Falls, which recorded its first win over UW-Oshkosh since the 2009-10 season, completed doubles play with victories from Karyn Duddeck and Gabby Potthoff in the second flight and Osmond and Macy Ragsdale in the third. Duddeck and Potthoff defeated Angie Carini and Courtney Salisbury, 8-1, while Osmond and Ragsdale outscored Beck and Hannah Stitt, 8-3.

Other individual winners for the Falcons were Potthoff in the third flight, Duddeck in the fourth and Kaedyn Kirchner in the sixth. Potthoff was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Salisbury while Duddeck was a 6-3, 6-2 victor over Stitt. Kirchner posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Carini.

UW-Oshkosh (0-6, 0-5 WIAC) plays its final dual match of the abbreviated 2020-21 season at UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (April 21). The Titans will then compete at the WIAC Team Championship next Saturday (April 24) in Whitewater.
