Titans Unable To Grab Win From Blue Devils

Maddie Toboyek and Courtney Salisbury accounted for both UW-Oshkosh points during the Titans' 7-2 women's tennis loss to UW-Stout on Wednesday (April 14) in Menomonie.

UW-Stout, which recorded its first victory over UW-Oshkosh since the 2007-08 season, built a 7-0 lead in Wednesday's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match before Toboyek and Salisbury closed the contest with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Toboyek defeated Annie Sandry, 6-1, 6-2, while Salisbury ousted Mariah Kent, 6-2, 4-6 (11-9).

UW-Stout (1-3, 1-3 WIAC) opened play by sweeping all three flights of the doubles competition.

Sandry and Lauren Couves earned the Blue Devils' first doubles victory with their 8-5 win over Toboyek and Michelle Spicer in the first flight. UW-Stout also received 8-6 wins from Kent and Olivia Leipnitz over Salisbury and Angie Carini in the second flight and Kyrstin and Kylie Rennie over Madeline Beck and Hannah Stitt in the third.

Couves gave UW-Stout the win at No. 1 singles with her 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Spicer.

Other individual winners for the Blue Devils were Leipnitz in the fourth flight, Rennie in the fifth and Madeline Binczak in the sixth. Leipnitz posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stitt while Rennie registered a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Beck. Binczak was a 6-3, 6-1 victor over Carini.

The Titans (0-5, 0-4 WIAC) host UW-River Falls on Saturday (April 17) at Valley Fitness & Racquet in Neenah. The contest marks UW-Oshkosh's final home match of the abbreviated 2020-21 season.
