Titans Host Eagles In Women's Tennis Opener

Home matches on consecutive dates against the two most successful programs in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history highlights the spring schedule for the 2020-21 UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team.

UW-Oshkosh, which had the fall portion of its itinerary canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, is slated to play eight dual matches this spring before competing at the WIAC Championship on April 24 in Whitewater.

The Titans start their first season under head coach Robert W. LeBuhn with Friday's (March 5) indoor home match at Valley Fitness & Racquet in Neenah against first-time opponent University of Northwestern (Minn.). The opening serve is set for 5:45 p.m.

The University of Northwestern, which is projected to finish second in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference this spring, owns a 1-1 record after losing a 6-3 decision to Coe College (Iowa) on Feb. 13 before posting a 9-0 victory over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Feb. 26.

UW-Oshkosh follows its season debut by hosting the Milwaukee School of Engineering on March 27 at Valley Fitness & Racquet. The Titans have won all three matches in a series that began with the Raiders during the 2006-07 season.

The Titans begin a string of six straight WIAC outdoor contests with a match at UW-Stevens Point on April 7. UW-Oshkosh has won its last seven matches against the Pointers, including the last two meetings by 8-1 results.

UW-Oshkosh then returns home to host 20-time WIAC champion UW-Whitewater on April 10 and 15-time league winner UW-La Crosse on April 11 at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts. UW-Whitewater has won 13 straight WIAC titles since UW-La Crosse captures consecutive champions in 2005 and 2006.

The Titans then visit UW-Stout on April 14 before hosting UW-River Falls at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts on April 17. UW-Oshkosh, which defeated both teams by 9-0 scores during the 2019-20 season, has won its last 12 matches against UW-Stout and its last 10 contests against UW-River Falls.

UW-Oshkosh closes its dual match schedule at 12-time WIAC champion UW-Eau Claire on April 21. The Blugolds captured their most recent league title in 2002.

The Titans, who compiled an 8-4 dual record during the 2019-20 season, has finished fourth in the WIAC overall standings the past eight seasons. UW-Oshkosh compiled a 3-3 record in league dual matches during the 2019-20 campaign before tallying 38 points at the WIAC Championship to place fourth in both the regular season standings and the league tournament.

UW-Oshkosh returns four letterwinners from its 2019-20 team in senior Angie Carini and juniors Taylor Johnson, Courtney Salisbury and Michelle Spicer. Johnson won eight of 14 singles matches during the 2019-20 season while Spicer won eight of 17.

Other members on this year's team are freshmen Madeline Beck, Audrey Rich, Hannah Stitt and Maddie Toboyek.
