Lady Reds Pull Out Win Over Titans
Carthage College took a one-point lead after the doubles competition and then won three of the first four completed singles contests to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 5-4, in a women's tennis match held Sunday (April 14) at the Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine.
The Lady Reds (9-8) secured their win over the Titans (5-8) with Nia Pham's 3-6, 6-1 (11-9) win over Hannah Peters at No. 3 singles.
Trailing 5-2 following Pham's triumph, UW-Oshkosh created its one-point loss to Carthage College with wins by Ashlee Polena and Taylor Johnson at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Polena defeated Kira Mautone, 6-2, 6-2, while Johnson ousted Faelan O'Shaughnessy, 7-5, 2-6 (11-9).
UW-Oshkosh's Michelle Spicer won the No. 4 singles contest with her 6-3, 6-2 decision over Hannah Haeberle.
Carthage College's Angelica Emmanouil claimed the No. 1 singles challenge by a 6-1, 6-2 result over Alyssa Leffler while the Lady Reds' Sam Ramsey won the No. 2 singles contest by a 4-6, 6-4 (10-6) score over Samantha Koppa.
UW-Oshkosh picked up its lone doubles victory in the second flight. The duo of Peters and Koppa captured the win for the Titans with their 8-2 triumph over Haeberle and Pham.
Carthage College won the No. 1 doubles contest as Emmanouil and Ramsey defeated Leffler and Spicer, 8-1. Mautone and O'Shaughnessy captured the No. 3 doubles flight with their 8-5 win over Johnson and Jenna Peterson.
UW-Oshkosh's next matches are scheduled for Friday (April 19) in Decorah, Iowa, against Iowa's Wartburg and Luther colleges.
