Titans Tame Pointers

UW-Oshkosh evened its WIAC women's tennis ledger with a 7-2 victory over UW-Stevens Point on Thursday (Oct. 5). The match began outdoors at Oshkosh North High School before moving indoors to the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center due to inclement weather.

UW-Oshkosh (6-2, 2-2 WIAC) built a 2-0 lead over UW-Stevens Point (5-5, 0-3 WIAC) before heavy rain hit the Oshkosh area.

The Titans earned their outdoor team points on wins by Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen at No. 1 and Samantha Koppa and Alyssa Leffler at No. 2 doubles. Peters and Sagen defeated Abbey Johnson and Erin Lemmer, 8-3, while Koppa and Leffler ousted Emily Kleist and Kaylee Roberts, 8-1.

The No. 3 doubles contest was held both outdoors and indoors and the result was an 8-6 victory for UW-Stevens Point's Anna Dobbe and Elizabeth Wilichowski over Titans Lesley Kutnink and Ashlee Polena.

UW-Oshkosh then dominated the individual competition to secure the win, the Titans' 20th over the Pointers in their last 27 meetings.

Leffler and Koppa led UW-Oshkosh's individual results by posting 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Leffler trounced Lemmer while Koppa overwhelmed Angelica Hernandez.

Sagen also won by a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Kleist at No. 1 singles while Peters outscored Johnson by a 6-3, 6-4 count at No. 3 singles.
