Titans' Winning Streak Extends To Five Matches

The winning streak for the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team became five matches following the Titans' 9-0 victory over UW-River Falls on Sunday (Oct. 1) in River Falls.

UW-Oshkosh, which defeated Marian University, St. Norbert College, Ripon College and Lawrence University in its previous four contests, hasn't lost since suffering a 7-2 decision to UW-Eau Claire on Sept. 1.

The Titans (5-1, 1-1 WIAC) began their match with UW-River Falls (1-5, 0-3 WIAC) by sweeping all three doubles flights, including the first where Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen defeated Brittany Asfeld and Krista Haglund, 8-4.

UW-Oshkosh won the other two doubles contests by 8-3 scores as Samantha Koppa and Alyssa Leffler defeated Hannah Andress and Molly Deering in the second flight while Lesley Kutnink and Ashlee Polena ousted Karli Helland and Marilyn Schimanski in the third.

The Titans recorded a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutouts during the singles portion of the match as Leffler trounced Deering in the second flight while Hodyl thrashed Schimanski in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh's Koppa enjoyed an easy win at No. 4 singles by conquering Andress, 6-0, 6-1, while Kutnink won over Helland at No. 5 singles by a 6-2, 6-0 result.

Sagen took the No. 1 singles contest for the Titans with her 6-3, 5-7 (8) victory over Asfeld.

UW-Oshkosh received its remaining victory from Peters at No. 3 singles. Peters posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Haglund.

UW-Oshkosh will visit 10-time defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater on Tuesday (Oct. 4).
