Titans Defeated In WIAC Team Championship Semifinal

UW-Whitewater went unbeaten in five contests to defeat UW-Oshkosh in the semifinal round of the WIAC Women's Tennis Team Championship held Saturday (April 29) in Janesville.

The Warhawks captured the three doubles flights by winning 24 of 26 games. UW-Whitewater, the WIAC's regular-season champion, then secured the victory with wins at both No. 1 and No. 3 singles.

In doubles play, UW-Whitewater won 8-1 decisions in the first and second flights. Megan Humphreys and Bridgid McGuire defeated Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen in the first flight while Alexandra Talyansky and Jillian Wallace ousted Samantha Koppa and Alyssa Leffler in the second.

Alicia Beck and Rachel Siemon completed the Warhawks' sweep of the doubles competition with their 8-0 victory over Leslee Kutnink and Ashlee Polena in the third flight.

UW-Whitewater concluded the match with individual wins by Humphreys in the first flight and Wallace in the third. Humphreys marked a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sagen while Wallace posted a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Peters.

Contests in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth singles flights were not played to completion.

UW-Oshkosh split its last four matches to end the 2016-17 season with a 9-11 record.

UW-Whitewater (19-7) went on to earn the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship with its 5-0 victory over UW-La Crosse in the title match. The Eagles advanced to the final with their 6-3 win over UW-Eau Claire.
