Titans Have Mixed Results In Iowa

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team returned to the court after nearly a one-month layoff and traded 7-2 victories with Iowa's Coe and Wartburg colleges on Saturday (April 15) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

UW-Oshkosh (9-10) lost to Coe College in the opener and earned its two team points on victories from Samantha Koppa at No. 5 singles and Lesley Kutnink and Ashlee Polena at No. 3 doubles. Koppa defeated Lakyn Boltz, 7-6 (4), 6-2, while Kutnink and Polena ousted Boltz and Ella White, 8-4.

Coe College (15-9) had little trouble in three of its individual wins as Lauren French posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alyssa Leffler in the second flight, Sarah Lasecki a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Hannah Peters in the third and White a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Monica Micoliczyk in the sixth.

The Duhawks also received individual victories from Haley Resnick in the first flight and Kaitlin Fosler in the fourth. Resnick recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bailey Sagen while Fosler outlasted Kutnink, 6-4, 6-7 (2), (10-3).

Coe College took its two doubles matches with victories from French and Resnick in the first flight and Fosler and Lasecki in the second. French and Resnick defeated Peters and Sagen, 8-4, while Fosler and Lasecki outscored Kopp and Leffler, 8-4.

UW-Oshkosh's victory over Wartburg College (5-11) in the nightcap featured five wins by the Titans in singles play and two in doubles action.

UW-Oshkosh swept the top four individual contests, including Sagen's 6-1, 6-3 win over Alex Peterson in the first flight and Leffler's 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lauren O'Brian in the second.

The Titans also had Peters tally a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Hannah Fox in the third flight, Kutnink a 6-4, 6-1 result over Gabby Olejniczak in the fourth and Micoliczyk a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Rachel Zittergruen in the sixth.

The lone individual winner for the Knights was Annika Krieg, who registered a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Koppa in the fifth flight.

In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh picked up a 9-7 win from Peters and Sagen over O'Brian and Petersen in the first flight and an 8-3 victory from Koppa and Leffler over Fox and Krieg in the second.

Olejniczak and Zittergruen gave Wartburg College the win at No. 3 doubles with their 8-5 triumph over Kutnink and Polena.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it travels to Mequon for a match against Concordia University Wisconsin on April 28.
