Scots, Oles Defeat Titans By Identical Scores

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team lost a pair of 7-2 decisions to The College of Wooster (Ohio) and St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Tuesday (March 21) in Hilton Head, S.C.

Samantha Koppa helped the Titans (7-9) earn three of their four team points by winning both of her No. 5 singles contests and the No. 2 doubles match with Alyssa Leffler against St. Olaf College (4-3).

Koppa defeated The College of Wooster's Elizabeth Brewington, 6-3, 6-2, before ousting St. Olaf College's Morgan Steffen, 6-0, 6-3. Koppa and Leffler won their doubles contest by an 8-5 score over the St. Olaf College tandem of Kellis Brandt and Ella Hagopian.

Leffler tallied UW-Oshkosh's remaining team point against The College of Wooster (5-4) with her 6-4, 6-0 victory over Rachel Mole at No. 2 singles.

The College of Wooster won all three doubles contests against UW-Oshkosh, including the 9-8 (7-3) victory by Mole and Morgan Wagers over Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen in the first flight.

The Scots also received wins from Brewington and Joy Li at No. 2 doubles, and Dora Mase and Shannon Sertz at No. 3. Brewington and Li defeated Koppa and Leffler, 8-2, while Mase and Sertz edged Lesley Kutnink and Ashlee Polena, 9-8 (7-5).

Li also won the No. 1 singles contest by a 6-0, 6-3 score over Sagen while Wagers captured the No. 3 singles match by a 6-4, 6-0 result over Peters.

Other individual winners for the Scots were Sertz in the fourth flight and Mahlet Zemedkun in the sixth. Sertz defeated Kutnink, 6-4, 6-1, while Zemedkun outscored Monica Micoliczyk, 6-4, 6-2.

St. Olaf College took five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests during its win over UW-Oshkosh.

The Oles' Margaret Zimmerman won the No. 1 singles match with her 6-4, 7-5 victory over Sagen. Zimmerman also teamed with Erin McDonald to post an 8-1 win over Peters and Sagen at No. 1 doubles.

McDonald then earned her second win of the match by defeating Leffler by a 6-2, 6-3 score at No. 2 singles.

Other individual winners for St. Olaf College were Brandt in the third flight, Sophia Skoglund in the fourth and Shelby Ahrendt in the sixth. Brandt defeated Peters, 6-2, 6-0, while Skoglund outlasted Kutnink, 7-6, 6-5. Ahrendt was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Micoliczyk.

Ahrendt also teamed with Morgan Steffen to defeat Kutnink and Polena, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh closes its five-match trip to Hilton Head with Thursday's contest against Hollins University (Va.).
