Titans Cap South Carolina Trip With Trouble-Free Win

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team closed a five-match trip to South Carolina with an easy 9-0 victory over Hollins University (Va.) on Thursday (March 23) in Hilton Head.

UW-Oshkosh (8-9) won all six singles contests against its first-time opponent in straight sets while capturing 24 of the 34 games in doubles play.

A trio of Titans won their singles contest by 6-0, 6-0 scores, including Alyssa Leffler who defeated Olivia Dannon in the second flight.

Other UW-Oshkosh players winning by the minimum singles result were Samantha Koppa over Kaitlyn Woodruff in the fifth flight and Monica Micoliczyk over Kandyce Mayes in the sixth.

Titans winning by 6-0, 6-1 scores were Bailey Sagen over Jhovanna Salmeron at No. 1 singles and Lesley Kutnink over Kateri Johnson at No. 3.

UW-Oshkosh also received a 6-4, 6-3 victory from Hannah Peters over Amelia Verkerk at No. 3 singles.

In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh earned a pair of 8-2 victories as Peters and Sagen defeated Johnson and Salmeron in the first flight while Koppa and Leffler ousted Verkerk and Sarah Jordan Snoddy in the second.

Kutnink and Ashlee Polena gave UW-Oshkosh the win at No. 3 doubles with their 8-6 decision over Dannon and Elizabeth Rochow.

Hollins University saw its record fall to 1-6 with the loss to the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it plays matches against Iowa's Coe and Wartburg colleges on April 15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
