Blugolds Handcuff Titans

UW-Eau Claire won all six singles contests in straight sets as it defeated the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team, 9-0, on Saturday (Oct. 15) in Eau Claire.

The Blugolds' individual domination featured 6-0, 6-0 wins by Olivia Gallagher and Molly Stewart. Gallagher defeated UW-Oshkosh's Hannah Peters in the third flight while Stewart ousted the Titans' Annie Docter in the fourth.

UW-Eau Claire (6-3, 4-2 WIAC) won 6-2, 6-2 results at the top two individual levels as Sarah Henderson beat Bailey Sagen in the first flight and Natalie Wijesinghe downed Alyssa Leffler in the second.

The Blugolds received their remaining individual wins from Kendra Berry in the fifth flight and Bailey Budnik in the sixth. Berry outlasted Samantha Koppa, 6-3, 6-3, while Budnik outscored Monica Micoliczyk, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh (7-3, 3-3 WIAC) gave its best effort in the second flight, where Koppa and Leffler lost an 8-4 decision to Gallagher and Stewart.

UW-Eau Claire took the remaining two flights by 8-2 scores as Henderson and Wijesinghe defeated Peters and Sagen in the first while Brooke Volpone and Hannah Zevenbergen conquered Hannah Nauth and Ashlee Polena in the third.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship next Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 22-23) at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
