Titans Deliver Blue Devils A Narrow Defeat

Samantha Koppa's winning effort at No. 5 singles clinched UW-Oshkosh's 5-4 victory over the UW-Stout women's tennis team on Friday (Oct. 14) in Menomonie.

Koppa gave the Titans (7-2, 3-2 WIAC) a 5-3 lead by defeating the Blue Devils' Anna Lano, 6-2, 6-4. Koppa earlier teamed with Alyssa Leffler for an 8-2 triumph over Emma Pedersen and Jenna Welke at No. 2 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh, which has won six of its last seven matches, led UW-Stout, 2-1, after the doubles competition. The Titans also took the No. 1 doubles contest as Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen edged Lano and Linsey Thisius, 8-5.

Other individual winners for UW-Oshkosh were Sagen in the first flight and Leffler in the second. Sagen defeated Thisius, 6-1, 6-0, while Leffler ousted Pedersen, 6-3, 6-0.

UW-Stout (5-6, 2-3 WIAC) earned its three individual victories from Katie Kreibich in the third flight, Welke in the fourth and Katie Govin in the sixth. Kreibich outlasted Peters, 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 10-7, while Welke outscored Annie Docter, 6-0, 7-5. Govin recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Titans' Monica Micoliczyk.

UW-Stout took the No. 3 doubles contest as Kreibich and Annie Sandry defeated Hannah Nauth and Ashlee Polena, 8-4.

UW-Oshkosh is the guest of UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 15).
