Warhawks End Titans' Winning Streak

Samantha Koppa was the lone UW-Oshkosh winner during the Titans' 8-1 loss to the UW-Whitewater women's tennis team on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at the Kolf Sports Center outdoor courts.

Koppa competed at No. 5 singles and earned the UW-Oshkosh win with her 6-3, 6-4 decision over Kassie Alexander. Koppa's victory marked the first time in UW-Whitewater's last 10 WIAC matches that the Warhawks had suffered a singles or doubles defeat (81-1 record).

UW-Oshkosh (5-2, 1-2 WIAC), which had its four-match winning streak snapped, lost the No. 1 singles bout as Bailey Sagen dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Gabi Kitchell.

The Titans also won four games at No. 4 singles, where Annie Docter dropped a 6-2, 6-2 result to Alicia Beck.

UW-Whitewater (8-1, 4-0 WIAC), which has won nine straight WIAC championships and 76 straight dual matches against league opponents, swept UW-Oshkosh on the doubles competition.

Kitchell and Jillian Wallace gave the Warhawks the win at No. 1 doubles with their 8-3 victory over Sagen and Hannah Peters. Beck and Alexandra Talyansky also defeated Koppa and Alyssa Leffler at No. 2 doubles by the same score.

At No. 3 doubles, Gabriella Gregorio and Madeline Slicker earned the UW-Whitewater victory with their 8-2 decision over Hannah Nauth and Ashlee Polena.

Other UW-Whitewater winners were Talyansky at No. 2 singles, Wallace at No. 3 singles at Slicker at No. 6 singles. Talyansky defeated Leffler, 6-0, 6-3, while Wallace ousted Peters, 6-0, 6-1. Slicker registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Monica Micoliczyk.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Stevens Point on Thursday (Oct. 6) for another WIAC match.
