Titans Fall To Eagles In WIAC Opener

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team opened WIAC action with a 9-0 loss to UW-La Crosse on Friday (Sept. 16) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

Bridget Bellissimo was victorious at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the visiting Eagles (5-0, 2-0 WIAC). Bellissimo teamed with Sadie Spahn to tally a 9-7 win over Hannah Peters and Bailey Sagen before recording an individual victory of 6-0, 6-2 over Sagen.

Spahn captured the win for UW-La Crosse at No. 2 singles with her 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Paige Ganser.

In addition to Ganser's effort, UW-Oshkosh (1-1, 0-1 WIAC) also played three other competitive singles contests. The Titans' Annie Docter lost a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Samantha Fleming in the fourth flight while Alyssa Leffler dropped a 6-4, 6-3 result to Maura Andersen in the fifth. Samantha Koppa suffered defeat on a tiebreaker with her 7-5, 6-7 (10-5) setback to Alaina Bublitz in the sixth flight.

Hayley Clope gave UW-La Crosse the win at No. 3 singles by ousting Peters, 6-1, 6-0.

UW-La Crosse took the remaining two doubles contests as Bublitz and Clope defeated Koppa and Leffler, 8-2, in the second flight, while Fleming and Lauren Weise topped Docter and Ganser, 9-5, in the third.

UW-Oshkosh will host UW-River Falls on Saturday (Sept. 17) at the Kolf Sports Center outdoor courts.
