Lady Reds Defeat Titans In Spring Opener

UW-Oshkosh's Paige Ganser and Bailey Sagen won the first doubles match, but Carthage College swept the remaining eight contests on the way to an 8-1 victory in a women's tennis meet held Sunday (March 13) in Kenosha.

UW-Oshkosh (3-7), playing its first match since the WIAC Championship on Oct. 25, fell to 5-5 in the all-time series with Carthage College (8-2).

Ganser and Sagen defeated the Lady Reds duo of Taylor Bolyard and Casey Frommer, 8-2, to improve their record to 8-7 at No. 1 doubles.

Carthage College began its streak of eight straight wins in the second flight of doubles, where the Lady Reds tandem of Max Mella and Kristen Peterson downed Hannah Nauth and Shauna Stoffregen, 8-3.

The Lady Reds concluded doubles competition with a win by Eliza Barter and Kristen Kalinka over Annie Docter and Ashlee Polena in the third flight.

In singles play, Mella defeated Sagen, 6-3, 6-2, in the first flight while Frommer cruised, 6-0, 6-0, in the second flight.

Completing the Lady Reds' string of singles victories were Bolyard over Stoffregen (7-5, 6-1) in the third flight, Angelica Emmanouil over Docter (6-1, 6-0) in the fourth flight, Barter over Polena (4-6, 6-1, 10-2) in the fifth flight and Peterson over Nauth (6-1, 6-1) in the sixth flight.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts Edgewood College on April 17 at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts.
