Titans Conclude WIAC Dual Meet Schedule With Loss
The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team concluded three consecutive days of activity with a 9-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 17) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
UW-Oshkosh (3-6, 3-3 WIAC) split the previous two matches of its hectic schedule by losing 9-0 to UW-La Crosse on Thursday (Oct. 15) and winning 5-4 over UW-Stout on Friday (Oct. 16).
Against UW-Eau Claire (8-2, 4-2 WIAC), UW-Oshkosh lost all six of its singles contests in straight sets and was outscored 24-9 in the doubles competition.
UW-Oshkosh's best individual results came from Bailey Sagen in the first flight and Shauna Stoffregen in the third. Sagen was defeated 6-2, 6-3 by Sarah Henderson while Stoffregen was ousted 7-5, 6-0 by Colleen McCullough.
The Titans' Sophie Pitz lost a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Olivia Gallagher at No. 2 singles.
UW-Eau Claire easily won the remaining three singles contests. The victories included Kendra Berry's 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Hannah Nauth in the sixth flight.
The Blugolds also received a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Paige Kuepers over Ashlee Polena in the fourth flight and a 6-0, 6-3 win from Brooke Volpone over Paige Kloth in the fifth.
In doubles play, the UW-Oshkosh tandem of Sagen and Paige Ganser lost an 8-4 decision to Henderson and McCullough in the first flight.
At No. 2 doubles, the UW-Eau Claire duo of Gallagher and Kuepers recorded an 8-2 win over Pitz and Stoffregen.
The Blugolds took the No. 3 doubles contest as Volpone and Molly Sanvik defeated Kloth and Nauth, 8-3.
UW-Oshkosh concluded its fall dual meet schedule with Saturday's match. The next competition for the Titans is at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 24-25 in Madison (Nielsen Tennis Stadium).
