Norse Remain Undefeated With Win Over Titans

The Luther College women's tennis team remained undefeated during the young 2015 season with a 9-0 victory over visiting UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Sept. 12) in Decorah, Iowa.

Luther College (4-0) won seven contests on the court and received forfeits from the Titans (0-1) at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh's Bailey Sagen came up short in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1 (10-4) loss to Maggie Helms at No. 1 singles.

The Titans' Shauna Stoffregen won six games during her 6-1, 7-5 loss to Jenna Myers at No. 2 singles.

Luther College dominated the three remaining singles contests, including 6-0, 6-0 wins achieved by Lauren Welch in the third flight and Jackie Cychosz in the fourth. Welch defeated Hannah Nauth while Cychosz ousted Caitlyn Schafer.

Olivia Heitz supplied the Norse with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ashlee Polena in the fifth flight.

In doubles play, Luther College acquired an 8-2 win from Helms and Maggie Johnson in the first flight and an 8-0 victory from Heitz and Welch in the second. Sagen and Stoffregen competed in the first flight and Nauth and Schafer in the second for the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Stevens Point next Saturday (Sept. 19) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex in its WIAC opener.
