Women's Tennis Team Opens Season In Whitewater

The opening serve of the 2015-16 UW-Oshkosh women's tennis season will be at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 5).

UW-Oshkosh's season-opening event will be flighted, with each team being allowed a maximum of three singles and three doubles entries. The Titans placed seventh at last year's UW-Whitewater Invitational with 10 points.

UW-Oshkosh follows its fall debut with matches at Luther College (Iowa) and UW-La Crosse on Sept. 12. The contest with UW-La Crosse kicks off WIAC play for the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh then welcomes UW-Stevens Point for its home opener on Sept. 19. The Titans will also host WIAC contests against UW-Stout on Oct. 16 and UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 17.

The Titans will also travel to Appleton for matches against St. Norbert College and Lawrence University on April 20, to UW-River Falls on Sept. 24 and to eight-time defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater on Oct. 6.

Other highlights of the schedule are the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional from Sept. 25-27 in St. Peter, Minn., and the WIAC Championship on Oct. 24-25 in Madison.

During the spring portion of the schedule, the Titans play at Carthage College on March 12 and Elmhurst College (Ill.) on April 9 before closing the season at home against Edgewood College on April 18.

Last season the Titans (10-12, 3-3 WIAC) placed fourth in the WIAC while sporting a record of 64-80 in singles play and 34-46 in doubles competition. Among UW-Oshkosh's victories were 9-0 wins over UW-River Falls and UW-Stout and 8-1 triumphs over Lawrence University and North Park (Ill.) University.

First-year head coach Robert Henshaw's roster includes returning players Paige Ganser, Hannah Nauth and Bailey Sagen in addition to newcomers Sophie Pitz, Caitlyn Schafer and Shauna Stoffregen.

Ganser had the second-most individual victories on the team last season, finishing with an 11-12 record. Her record included a combined 10-10 mark at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. She also paired with five different partners to produce a 6-5 mark in doubles competition.

Sagen had a 9-15 singles record last year, including an 8-14 ledger in the second flight. She also combined with two partners to produce a 13-13 record in doubles play. Sagen went 11-13 at No. 1 doubles with Erica Van Riper and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles with Ganser.
