Titans Post Best WIAC Finish Since 1998

Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay), Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Brianna Theobald (So. • Manitowoc) each contributed a second-place result as UW-Oshkosh grabbed third place at the WIAC Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 22-23) in Madison.

The Titans, who last finished third in 1998, posted at least one victory in all nine flights. UW-Whitewater (21 points) earned the team title by winning all six singles brackets and the three doubles competitions. UW-Eau Claire (17) followed in second place, along with UW-Oshkosh (15), UW-La Crosse in fourth (13), UW-Stevens Point fifth (8), UW-River Falls sixth (7) and UW-Stout seventh (3).

Bostwick won her first two matches at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Jenny Paxton (UW-River Falls) and a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 triumph over Taylor Heltne (UW-Eau Claire). In the championship round, UW-Whitewater's Kalla Schaefer topped Bostwick by a 6-2, 6-1 tally.

At No. 3 doubles, Counts and Theobald got their run started with an 8-1 win over Michelle Counsell and Elizabeth Lehnertz (UW-Stout). The Titan duo then knocked off UW-Eau Claire's Mary Frassetto and Lexi DeMario, 8-3. The final featured a challenge against Megan Kasten and Jackie Vitale (UW-Whitewater), who prevailed by an 8-4 figure.

UW-Oshkosh had a trio of third-place finishes to bolster its scoring total. Counts and Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.) each went 2-1 to place third in the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, respectively. At No. 1 doubles, Bostwick teamed up with Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) to go 2-1, including a 9-7 victory vs. Olivia Hartwick and Andrea Vivian (UW-La Crosse) in the third-place showdown.

The Titans' results concluded with 1-2 records and fourth-place standings by Theobald at No. 4 singles, Piotrowski at No. 5 singles and Valerie Langkau (So. • Oshkosh) at No. 6 singles. Nolte and Megan Etten (So. • Howard) also came in fourth place at No. 2 doubles.
